$3.70 for regular and $4.19 for diesel in the fourth corner of WA state. It's lower this week than last! (And we live 8 miles from two major oil refineries)

Taxes hurt. But I do enjoy the roads that the tax money buys, well, most of them anyway.

I'm planning to go round trip Chicago in April. I stopped traveling with a motorhome (or any Rv) years ago when gas stayed over $2gal. I'll be taking a small SUV that will cost me $1500 in gas for 2 weeks. If I took my motorhome, the cost would be $4000 for 2 weeks. I think RV days are over with, except for those with money to burn gas.

$4000 for 4200+ miles seems a lot - something like 4mpg if fuel is $4.00.

If I was traveling to Chicago to visit relatives and had a place to say I would take my car too. However, if you figure in two weeks of lodging, plus eating out, I think it might be a lot closer to what it would be with the RV.

The wholesale price of gas is pushing 3 bucks so I'm very surprised there is anywhere in the country you can buy gas for under 3 bucks.

Gas in NW Wyoming comes out of Canada. $2.95 in Powell but it is 20 cents a gal higher in Cody because it is a tourist town. We are about ready to get our farm fuel tanks filled and it will be discounted from the $2.95 a gal price. They also take off the road tax.

Gas price here in Lander, Wyoming is around $2.97-$2.99 per gallon, before any discounts, for unleaded regular. However, diesel is about $3.88 or $3.89 before discounts. Lander has some of the highest prices in the state for gas but is about the same for diesel, although filling up in Jackson, Wy last week it was $.10 per gallon lower than in Lander. Jackson is certainly a tourist town.

Go to gasbuddy.com to get gas prices across the U.S. You can use the "trip planner" to plot your route and estimate fuel cost for a trip using your MPG.

Really? At $4/gal, that would be 1,000gals used in 2 weeks. At 8mpg that's 8,000miles! Me thinks you are exaggerating, unless you plan to drive non-stop for 14 days......

Expected price of gas will be near $4.85ga
Miles driven RT will be near 5000mi

SUV 5000mi RT / 16mpg = 313 x 4.85 = $1516
MH 5000mi RT / 7mpg = 714 x 4.85 = $3463

If I was into 5 star hotels and fine dining, maybe. But I'm a sleep in the car, motel 6, pitch a tent, couch hop at relatives, and eat fast food or smooch off relatives kind of guy.
