I see they sell grease for the equalizer brand weight distribution hitch. I am wondering if you lubricate the friction points will it take away the ability for proper sway control. I am told that the friction on the end of the bars is about half of the sway control. Any thoughts?

Lube it up...but use Slip Plate dry Graphite spray or RemOil Dry Teflon spray...does not trap or hold gunk and goop like grease.

The geomety of the 4 point design is what dials out the sway, "continual resistance", not so much friction except for the people who use the "friction sway bars" that are a waste of time.

A little grease will reduce the stiction at the trailer end of the bars which will help prevent noise during low speed turns. If the hitch is setup up properly you will still have plenty of friction for the sway control. I don't always grease mine but I did do a mod to the mounts on the trailer so the entire thing was not relying on those small set bolts.

Superduty,
The Equal-I-zer hitch is ENTIRELY friction based. The main friction control occurs at the interface between the WD bar sockets and the hitch head. When you load the bars by drawing them up the upward pressure between those two points is tremendous. This is the main sway control on the hitch.

The secondary sway control comes from the pressure put on the L brackets by the WD bars when drawn up. There are two L bracket/bar contact points and two bar socket/head interface points - hence the "4 point" sway control that Equal-I-zer claims.

When I was using my EQ I only lubed the friction points at the hitch head. Never put any lube on the L brackets. As long as the two cockets at the hitch head were lubed it was quiet and performed fine. Once the got dry it was noisy and sticky. I remeber when I 1st got it I didn't lube the sockets at the hitch head, took off down the freeway on a short trip. Freeway was mostly straight all the way, when I got to my turn off and turned right, then went straight the truck wanted to still go right because the sockets at the hitch head were dry and sticking. Called EQ and they advised me on the socket lube, also keep the sockets torqued properly.

The hitch head sockets are supposed to be lubricated. Says that in the manual.

Yup, lube ball, hitch head bar pivots, and a THIN coat on L brackets. I use wheel bearing grease, or Reese ball lube (when I can find it). Worked great for us for 60,000 miles or more so far.

I use the Reese ball lube also and do exactly the same as Chuck&Gail.

i lube the pivot points and ball as per equalizer manual.

if you look on the equalizer web sight they sell a plastic, not sure what composition is, looking black pad.

these install between the torsion bar and the L bracket

i put a pair of these on ours and would recommend them to any one using the equalizer hitch system.

they take almost all the pop and cracking sound out of the hitch when going over dips ect and didn't effect the sway control at all.

i only have 500 miles total on ours but in that distance haven't seen any problems with them and smother operation was worth the $10 per side.
