Terlet was what Archie Bunker called the Toilet...
I need to replace the rubber seals that hold water in the bowl. I have the rings... Big Job for an Intermediate Repairman????

Remove tyhe Terlet, take it outside, turn it updside down and remove the slide. Replace the rings and do the above backwards. It just takes some time.

Ditto... I'll just add... make sure the toilet is seated firmly in place before you tighten her down.

The Aquamagic 4 you don't need to remove the turlet,........or I didn't anyway.
Been a few yrs ago, but wasn't hard to do. There is only 1 seal that seals the blade to the bowl. It installs in a grove, and the blade just seals against it from upward spring pressure.

It depends on the make and model- most Sealand models you don't have to remove it from the floor- just remove the hose clamp and water line, pull the top half off, replace the seals and reassemble. On Thetford Starlite and Galaxy, the best fix is a dumpster and replace.

Depends on the make and model.. Mine takes one socket wrench and perhaps five minutes if I dog it.

Hi All.
Great advice there Chris. Another reason to replace a Thetford older toilet, espically a "Starlite" or a "Galaxy", is because Thetford is really "Very Proud" of their dam seals. It is by no means a cheap replacement project. For what they want for the whole kit, which included a New Slider Assy and New Seal, as they didn't show a Replaceable Seal for sale on thier site all by itself. "The Kit Only". It only cost a few dollar more to just by a Brand New Thetford Toilet, that is a direct change out. Another thing to ask yourself, when you find out how much parts are for an old toilet, is it really worth it to fix a very old toilet or to spend just a liitle bit more money and have a much better Brand New Toilet. We went with the Brand New Toilet. The New Toilet looks, and works so much better than the Old OEM Toilet. Your Money, Your Choice. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

Not sure what model Thetford toilet you have but on mine which is in a class b rv, to replace the seal you just open the slide valve, reach into the opening where the stuff goes down and grab the seal and pull. A new seal was very cheap even though I don't remember how much and I think the whole project took me about 4 minutes or less. Again, maybe your model Thetford is different than mine and might need to be removed before the seal is replaced. Why don't you call Thetford and ask and they may just send you a new seal free. They've done that in the past for me.

Hi All.
ernie1, I did call Thetford. As I said, they are "Very Proud" of their "Slider/Blade/Seal Kit", to the tune of $119.00, at least that is what the person that I talked to told me, and that they didn't sell the Seal seperately. I also had the OEM Book on our Toilet, and even had the part Number for the Seal. Plus I searched on line for Parts and Seals also. Our OEM Toilet, is 14 years old, and it wouldn't hold water any longer. And yes I cleaned it and also used Plumbers Grease on the old seal too. We had the "Starlite/Galaxy Model". You have to pull the toilet and turn it up-side dwon to even get to the Seal. The OEM Starlite/Galaxy Toilets, you have to use a Long Extension with a Wobbly Adapter with a Socket to even get to the rear bolt. Its not a straihgt down shot to that bolt, its at an angle. And you only had a 1 inch diamater hole to look through and to get the socket head onto the nut also. A real PITA to get to. The Front Bolt, you have to hold down the Foot Pedeal to get to the Front Bolt, to remove the nut, not exactely easy either, in a confined area to work in.. The OEM Blade Assy, had some real bad scratches in it. I could have fixed that part with no problem, thus I only wanted the Seal, which I couldn't get seperately. And I wasn't about to spend $119.00 dollars on a new kit, for a 14 year old toilet. Instead, for $50.00 Dollars more, I bought a Brand New Toilet, a direct replaccement for the Starlite/Galaxy Toilet. What a huge differance between the two toilets. The New Toilet works and looks so much better than the old OEM one. And is so simple to install, I think a kid could do it, as the entire front of the new toilet comes off, and the bolts and nuts are extreamly easy to get to, and you only need just one wench to complete the job, in only minutes. Not enought room to use a socket due to how its made. My only regreat is, I wish I would have bought the New Toilet sooner. No regreats in buying the new toilet. As it did make the Bathroom look a lot better, since we had done an "Inside Make-Over" to our Motorhome. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill
