It is winter and I got so bored I started re-reading my own posts. Was surprised at how often I actually followed the advice I asked for. Most recently I: 1)subscribed to Verizon MiFi, 2)put in a septic system for the TT site instead of sinking a 55 gal drum 3)decided Not to buy a generator for our trip to Alaska (thanks JoeB), and 4)learned to post photos on the Forum (thanks Francesca). Still agonizing over what brand of tires for the TT and still working on the itinerary for next summer. What about you? How much consideration do you give to advice from Forum members (solicited and unsolicited)? lizzie

Read it all, then decide what parts to use or not. Yes or no, I really like the help and suggestions I get from everyone. This is really a helpful group.

I will always WEIGH advice I get from many sources including the forum. Some advice I take and others I do not. I'd never consider myself to be a blind follower from any source. If it makes sense for ME then that's the path I take.

I only take the advice that to me makes the most sense, and I gotta say, I have fixed so many things on my TT on my own by following advice I got here. Well, I guess in that respect I didn't fix it on my "own" since I got the advice...but you probably get what I mean. Every time I have posted a thread, I get at least one response that led me to a solution.

The thing with forums is - and some don't seem to know how to do this which is evidenced by a recent thread where someone was attacking those who didn't give her advice she liked - you have to know how to weed through it and pick out what makes sense. But I chalked her thread up to being a novice to forums and not realizing that you can't control content that is within the TOS and rules. And if it is something SERIOUS, you should never take the advice from someone on a forum without proper research. But even in those cases a post might help point you in the right direction.

This forum has been valuable for me on many different things, but again, you have to weed through what posts work well for you and which are not. Whenever I have posted a thread, I didn't get ALL helpful replies, but I know that is what happens when you post to a bunch of strangers on a public forum and it didn't bother me if every single response didn't help me much.

Hope this makes sense. But in a few words - this forum has been very valuable to me in many ways. It seems no matter what the issue is, at least one person has an answer or also been through it and can be very helpful.

Before taking the advice of forum members, I had to figure out that opinions come from a very large and different types of RV'ers. The biggest difference of opinion that I have found is the difference between the weekend camper, and the full or almost full time RV'er.

And I always question the "advice" from someone who makes a statement of fact, when it's really just HIS opinion.

I only follow someone else advise if it makes sense to me, there are so many old wives tales on here.

If I ask a question and the response makes sense, I'll do it.
I won't put a gallon of Heinz Ketchup in my gas tank because someone said it will improve my mileage by 27 per cent.

To me, collecting advice on a topic from a source like this one is a form of educating yourself. You can quite literally go from nothing, to the point you might be able make an intelligent decision on your own?

I agree, this place, as well as others that are similar in function but revolve around different interests, are a very big factor in a lot of decisions I make?

As long as the poster does not take the position that theirs is THE ONLY way (or ONLY TIRE) (or ONLY HITCH) I will consider the possibilities. There usually will end up being more than one way to approach the problem, whatever it is.

There is a lot of experience and expertize out here and you just need to ask the right questions. Chances are that others have had the same issue. Someone always has a better mouse trap, and its great to see all the options and pick the one that best meets your needs. When you use this source, you usally get some answers that make more sense then others and you want to say "Why didn't I think of that". Its great
