My truck is now 14 years old and parts are getting hard to find. Last year it took two weeks to find a power steering hose. This year I need new brake lines as the originals are weeping through the rust. Everything I have been replacing is due to rot, not being worn out.

Try shopping for parts for a 47 year old truck.

I agree that price has to be a typo, new they are running 50-60K. I just finished shopping for a used one and in this area, you could find 3 yr old diesels in the 30K range, 6 yr old diesels in the 15-25K range, 10 yr old diesels in the 5-15k range. I think that your 98K truck must really be gold plated and watch out because all of that gold will eat up your payload really quickly!

I don't think the difference is huge whether you buy a new truck and run it for five years and sell it or a five year old truck and run it for five years and sell it. So I would rather drive a newer truck.

Love it how everyone poo poo's the "high" truck prices but don't seem to have a problem plomping down $40-$50k for their "high end" f'ver; which is nothing more than cheap osb, luan and an overpriced mattress.

I myself wouldn't pay that for a f'ver. Bought my Newmar for less than 30k

I went through the same thing a couple years ago when looking for a TV. Any diesel automatically added a few grand to the price regardless of mileage. I called a guy on a '01 F-250 with a 7.3 PSD. The guy was asking $15K, which I thought was a touch high compared to other ads and KBB, but since he didn't list the mileage I thought maybe the high price was due to low mileage. I called and he said "it's just getting broke in...only has 225,000 on it. People seem to think that diesels will last for ever. Looking at the potential for turbo, injector and HP fuel pump, transmission, suspension problems on high mileage vehicles I went with a V10 and have been extemely happy with it. Now that I have the Banks kit on it I think it pulls as well as my old 7.3 Excursion.

when an old/used truck is just a few thousand less than a new one with warranty, lower finance cost if you don't pay cash, etc. I can't see buying used.

When I bought my Excursion V10 4 years ago thats about what I found. $6500-10000 more for a diesel depending on condition. So far don't regret buying the V10.
