Hello All
I replaced the air filter on my Cat 3126 and the filter minder does not read anything. It is at the very bottom of the minder.
Is this normal after a filter change? This is the first time I have replaced the filter since I have owned the unit. Checked all tje connections and all seem to be connected properly
Thanks for any replys.

Yes, some filters have so little restriction that they do not register on the air filter minder.

But the filter minder is easy to test. Remove the tube from the intake end and suck on it. It should instantly peg full vacuum reading and hold there until you push the button on the bottom to reset it.

And once reset, you will have to drive hard (higher RPM WOT) to pull maximum vacuum reading which the filter will "store" as maximum vacuum achieved.

You didn't by chance install a K-N brand filter?

Our C7 is the successor to your engine or virtually the same.
The filter minder, was indicating no resistence. Found out why. The exit rubber fitting or whatever was broken on the top side and all that dirty air near the road was getting in. Changed to new and the filter minder kept pegging to just below red. They installed an off brand. Next stop that has a Cat filter and it goes on.
With a good Cat filter though the filter minder was up in the yellow all the time. Not sure one would fit but a larger filter would be nice.

I have a CAT 3126E and I ignore the cheapo filter minder that Monaco used. I change the air filter every year regardless of the mileage and since I buy the filter at Napa Truck parts store for $80 I consider it cheap insurance since I don't off road with my rig, I'm a happy camper!

Couple of comments.

The air filter minder reads TOTAL restriction from side of coach to the air filter minder tap location not just the air filter.

So if the inlet on the side of the coach is too small, the duct from side of coach to air filter too small, corrugated and too long, air filter too small, ALL contribute to a high air filter minder reading.

It is a good idea to record the air filter minder reading after changing the filter AFTER resetting the air filter minder to zero and then after the first high RPM WOT run. If high, look to improve one or more of the above.

Also, I would suggest that changing the filter annually is overkill unless you drive a lot of miles in high dust conditions. A filter is actually better at removing dirt after it is "broken in" when the larger pores are filled with dirt.

I agree with the 3 year rule due to the breakdown of the filter media.

Regarding no reading on the filter minder:

Be sure the vacuum hose is good all the way from the filter minder to the engine connection.

If the vacuum hose has failed, the screen inside the engine fitting can clog with dust. It can be removed and soaked in solvent to clean.

Thanks to all for the information. I checked all the connections when I installed and did as Burt said to check the filterminder. It worked as it should. I have never run the engine WOT. as your travels are all in the South. I just did not know if it would/should have a reading on a new nama brand filter.
Thanks Again for the information
