Surely the "must have brakes" is not a new thing is it? Kind of hard to understand how a "fee" would help with anything other than a new source of income. If they considered it a safety issue I'd hate to think they would allow someone to PURCHASE a permit to be unsafe Law makers don't always use good sense when passing laws I guess.

The only thing listed on the letter is Act 59 of 2011. I can scan the letter and e-mail it to someone if they want it. Just drop me a private message. Otherwise there is no other info other then the normal requirements for trailers, etc.

Thank you, C.B. and Lil Truckr for the replies. We haven't pulled anything behind the 5er, but may consider in the future.

Is the frame on the rear of the fiver strong enough for the added weight & twisting of the load you haul?

I would guess that every fifth-wheel owner would have to decide that for themselves. In my case I built my fivers hitch myself. I used heavy duty steel and made sure my Harley would be safe back on its trailer. I have noticed that some new campers already come with a two inch receiver mounted on their rear from the factory so they should be ready to go if their owners decide to pull a small boat or trailer behind the camper...

Here's what I pull behind my Cardinal. Because I don't have a rear bumper on the Cardinal I had to extend and reinforce the frame to install a reciever hitch.

I probably only pull 1000 to 1500 pounds.

I'm glad they did away with the requirement to pay a fee for a permit to double tow. I'm even happier that I never got caught doing it without the permit.

CB what have you been up to? I guess i should stop by and visit for awhile.
