I am researching dropping the DSL service at home to get this portable broadband connection as a replacement for home and travel. I cannot receive Cable DSL only ATT phone line DSL at home. So the download speeds appear to be faster via the Elevate 4G The current offerings at Verizon appear to have poor reviews. Keep in mind if you switch to AT&T , Verizon or any cellular carrier there are hard caps with overage fees to deal with . If you use any amount of data at all , you are best to stick with your hard wired solution . A good place for answers on all things data are the forums at www.dslreports.com . Lots of users of all the different services over there that will gladly share their results with you. We haven't tried it in a 4G area yet but it working great so far. Hooks up pretty fast and stays connected. The reason that we got the Elevate is to get on the new plan that's $10.00 cheaper and allows you to pay only $10.00 more for each gig if you go over the 5gig limit. And the ability to have multiple computers online,of course. We were staying at McDowell Park in Fountain Hills, AZ which had no Wifi. A friend was staying in the next campsite and had the Verizon Myfi system. He gave us his network password so we could get on line. At a distance of about 60 to 70 feet between RVs the system worked pretty well. Not as fast as DSL or as stable, but acceptable. We split up from our friends and moved to a RV resort in Apache Junction. Their Wifi system was marginal at best with serious stability issues. Decided to pay a visit to the AT&T store since the wife had a 3G iPhone that was eligible for upgrade to 4S. We went in thinking about the hardware similar to Verizon. The young salesman was great to work with. The AT&T system we were looking at had a 5GB limit which was not enough for us and you couldn't upgrade it to the 200GB plan. Note that neither Verizon or AT&T have unlimited data plans any more. So, neither system is intended to replace home DSL. We ended up purchasing the new 4S iPhone for $199 and the 200GB data package for an additional $50 per month. The personal hotspot on the 4S was easy to connect to and was almost as fast as our DSL at home with two laptops connected. It was stable with only an occasional drop. For us the best part about the 4S and 200GB data plan was that we could downgrade the data plan to the minimum 5GB when not on the road cutting the cost from $50 per month to $25. Remember that if you have the iPhone away from home anybody at home would not have connectivity.
