Tried adding some Seafoam as part of the fuel mixture in my Yamaha 3000 inverter generator, partially to see if it would help with high run hours, partially as a fuel stabilization additive.
Big mistake. At no load, the generator ran fine. Flip on the A/C, the generator would sputter, spit out a lot of white smoke, and then stall. This is different from an overload condition where the inverter decides playtime is over and disconnects from the engine until the engine is stopped and started.
After running that tank through (had no place to dump the bad gas), I put fresh gas in, and the generator did take the A/C's load after that.
Think this damaged the motor or inverter?

Does the manual say to use seafoam? Then why use it?

Need to use fresh gas when you seafoam or just run normally. I wouldn't blame it on seafoam.

I definitely used fresh gas. The intention was to use seafoam as a fuel stabilizer as well.
Guess I'm going to stick with Sta-Bil, since that has never given me any issues whatsoever.

If you got white smoke exhaust you did not follow the instructions and used WAY too much. Millions of satisfied users for the last 50 years know it is a good product that works.

sea foam is a cleaner, use stabil as a fuel additive
your motor is fine, that's exactly what happens when seafoam gets dumped down the carb throat

I have been using it in the Honda and never have any problems. Matter of fact, I don't even bother with Sta-Bil, the Seafoam keeps my systems clean in three generators and outboards. Safe travels.

Sounds like the SeaFoam was cleaning a lot of crud out based your white smoke report. I would believe it did no damage but probably helped by cleaning it out of crud. I have run Seafoam in my Boily Genny for 2 seasons now. Keeps mine running smooth as silk.

Chances of it damaging your generator are about zero. It's a mixture of naphtha (aka white gas), isopropal alcohol, and light oil.

Maybe too much Seafoam was added, but I don't have any experience with Seafoam as I add Stabil when filling our 20 gallon generator tank.
