We've had no problems yet. We're up bright and early logged in at 8am. So far this summer we have Pismo, Morro Bay, South Carlsbad and hoping for Yosemite in Sept.

Everyone wants to camp at the beach in the summer. The trick to Reserve America is having a good internet connection. Don't try to call or use your smartphone they're just not fast enough, I have found if you don't have anything in your basket by 8:01am you're more than likely out of luck for the month.
We have had good luck booking beach spots for this summer. So far we have 2 trips a month: Dohney, San Elij(2x's), San Clemente, Morro Bay etc...
Feb. 1st, was a little difficult trying to get bookings for Aug. I had my DW, 2 kids and myself on the laptops trying to get 2 spots at San Elijo and was only able to get 1, campground sold out in a matter of minutes.

As you see, you can spend hours on the phone even with multiple phones calling in....if you don't get lucky enough to get through within an hour or so on the first of the month 7 months out....then all sites are gone from San Fran. to San Diego for that month. We use County sites, and private RV parks....granted, it's not the same as a state park on the coast, but let's face it....most of them have railroad tracks running right there, and the prices have gone through the roof. We can stay at an RV resort with golf, pools, tennis, spas on a developed site with outdoor kitchen, fireplace or pit for $55 bucks per night.....what are they charging now for dirt at a state park....???
You make a very convincing arguement.
What I do like about State parks is that there are trails and beaches within the parks.

I 'Reserved' early and got all 6 trips to state parks that I wanted.
I did have to move one date two days later, but it's pretty easy if
you plan ahead.

some of my favorite surf spots of all time.
throw in Salt Creek, Trestles and Swami's and it'd be perfect.
