Hello all!
General question here: When you are traveling with you TT, do you plan ahead and reserve campsites or do you like to just go where the road takes you and take your chances? If you do the latter, have you found it a hassle to find a place to overnight or has it been no problem for you? My wife and I are retired and for the last two seasons have pretty much done the campground/state and county parks route. This year, however, we plan to hit the road in a serious way and just get out and see some of this beautiful country. No particular destination or route planned, but we're wondering what to expect out there. Thanks for any input!

We've been doing this since 1964 (48 years) WITHOUT reservations and have never been without a place to stay. Sometimes we call ahead an hour or so to check availability but did not need a reservation at that time. Besides, we're known to change our minds several times per day. We never make them .

The only time we make reservations is if we are going to be in a resort area on a holiday or some place that has a reputation of being booked up, like a popular National Park.

If we really want to stay at a particular place here in the Florida panhandle during "Snowbird" season we always make reservations. The campgrounds are usually booked solid from January through April. We usually make them just about everywhere we go only because it's so easy to do on the computer.

It depends on where are going and When. If Fla in the winter we will book our destination site but not stops along the way. Most of the time we have no trouble finding a site for the night no matter where we are going.

I live in So California and 95% of the time not matter what time of year, no reservations- no place to stay. Since we don't really have bad weather (what is winterizing) here camping even in tents is year round, so the campgrounds are busy. In ten years of camping in CA I think maybe five times I have just got lucky and found a place without reservations. Since we have a very busy summer and winter here.

We mainly travel Spring and Fall to avoid the Summer crowds when families with school age kids are on the road. In 8 years and 70,000 miles of RVing, we have made advance reservations just four times, once for Fishing Bridge in Yellowstone, twice for Trailer Village at the Grand Canyon and once on Long Island NY to attend a wedding. Otherwise, we just get out the Trailer Life campground directory in the early afternoon and call to get a site a few driving hours ahead.
We like to be able to go where we want, when we want or stop for a while to enjoy a newly discovered area. IMO, reservations would ruin the flexibility of RV travel.

I seldom make reservations because they are too confining. I start out with a general plan of where we are going but I never know when we will arrive or how long we will stay.
