Thanks for the update and the pics.

Are those bolts hanging down going to create a problem when you try and reattach the headliner? Also - would a product like loctite, wood glue, or some kind of adhesive caulk help with screws backing out?

Make sure you test drive the rig before you try and put things back together - be a shame to do all that work and not get rid of the squeak.

Thanks for the pics! You are using bolts on the cabover and screws on the sides? I can't picture the sides as easily though. This is a much more thorough explanation of this fix than I have seen too. Could you put a piece of foam weather stripping over those bolt heads? Maybe cut out for each one to cushion the header material? Will you be able to stretch it back over the bolt heads? Looking forward to the results of your test drive!

I am definitely going to take it out on the road prior to buttoning everything back up. The biggest part of this job was removing the hundreds of staples that they used to attach the headliner to the wood strip. I just pictured a guy standing there with an air stapler going click, click, click!

I don't think I will have an issue reattaching the headliner, but I will let you all know.

I am using 5/16" screws with washers on the side pillars. The bolts thread through the wood into the metal upright behind the doors on each side. The problem is that you can't get to the other side of that wall, otherwise I would have used bolts and nylon lock washers. This is the part of the repair that I have the least amount of faith in how solid the screws will hold.

More to follow!

I am interested in how you got access to the side pillar - you photo shows a 2-3" space where the screws are. In my rig that area is covered with a headliner material and when I feel around it appears to be solid (no gap) - perhaps my rig is put together differently.

ksg5000 - Could be different than ours. All I did was pull back the headliner material (which has a hard backing)that is directly behind the seatbelt pillar and that is the area where I found that the screws were loose and obviously had been moving because the holes that the screws were originally in were elongated. Hope this helps and let me know if you would me to post additional pictures of that specific area.

kcgaz--looks like you've figured it out now, but in answer to your question, I don't really know. The work order said after they replaced the rotted woods they put in "longer" screws.

Alalucha - Thanks for the response back and that is exactly what I did, minus the need for the replacement of the rotten wood. I am hoping to finalize this project this weekend.

The project is done and WOW what a difference. Took our MH for a test drive and the creaking and squeaking is now gone! All I can hear now are the pots and pans rattling around...aah, it sounds wonderful. The headliner went right back into place with no problem and I only used 10 staples versus the hundreds that were used before, so if the next owner has to remove the headliner, he/she will thank me. It was a lot of work, it was well worth it...I would recommend it.
