eye8Ubutler, what a bunch of misinformation. Nowhere in the manuals does it say that a short-bed crew cab will lose its warranty if you tow a fifth-wheel. In fact, most of the towing guides from the manufacturers show towing capability of the pickup in various configurations, including crew cab short bed trucks. You must have been smoking something pretty strong when you made those comments and we should probably forgive you for making a post with almost nothing factual in it. By the way, I just bought a Dodge Ram Crew Cab 2500HD with a "long" bed and there were three more on the lot where I bought mine.

I am not sure how true this is but from my observation...
My 08 f350 supercab had a short back seat with a straight back to it. Somehow my nephews f150 supercab seems to have a seat back with more angle and a wider seat bottom.
If the back seat in my f350 had been similiar to my nephews f150, well that f350 would have still resided in my yard.
If in doubt just get teh crew cab, i suspect you wont regret it!

Supply and demand....P.S. I love crewcabs! Dealers stock what they think they can sell. The big three make what they think the dealers want to stock and sell. You can just order if you want an extended cab/supercab.

That just isn't true. You can get a crew cab long box from any of the big three, and they are all rated to tow a fifth wheel trailer in the 250/2500 and up series without any risk to the waranty as long as you stay within capacities. Also, the hitch will (as was pointed out earlier) be right over thr rear axle if installed properly.

Those who I have disgruntled!
The OP currently runs a 1/2 ton according to his signature.
So....that said....all my comments are 100% applicable!
Reference to my comments re. what might be printed in an 'owners hand book', I mention that IT MIGHT STATE I do not say that it does state!
I have seen in the past, this very thing in some books!
Reference to 5th wheel hitch location in a TVs bed....again....
applicable when a 1/2 ton is towing a 'fiver'!
Of course if one is running a 3/4 or 1 ton truck, then my comments are not applicable and a 5th wheel hitch at least over the rear axle if not a little forward is fine.
Finally, GM or Ford do not make a 1/2 ton Crew Cab or Super-Crew Cab with an 8ft box.
For a 1/2 ton with an 8ft box one must get either the GM/Ford Regular or GM Ext./Ford Super Cab versions!

2500/3500SRW Dodge trucks with Quad cab or Crew cab do in fact offer both short beds and long beds.
3500DRW Dodge trucks in all cab sizes come only with the long bed, except for the Mega cab, which only comes with the short bed.

I've been keeping my eye out for great deals on late model 1/2 ton crew cabs. Every time I think I've found a deal, it turns out to be the extended cab. They aren't in demand around here, so when you do find one the price is significantly less than the same truck in Crew cab form.

I wanted a truck.
I waited forever for Ford to produce a true crew cab F-150. Finally, the 2001 Ford F150 SuperCrew was mine!
I wanted the advantages of a truck, but needed to haul family with me and extended cabs do not have space for adults.
For me it was as simple as that.
Folks like me wanted to haul people and truck-bed stuff, not just stuff and groceries or tool bags.
Been very happy with my crew cab for hauling people and my truck bed for hauling stuff.

My wifes '06 1500 crew cab 4x4 owners manual says "fifth wheel or gooseneck trailering is not recommended for this vehicle". I checked with both of my area GM dealers about the recommendation. They said it was like the no truck camper clause for certain truck configurations.
The truck has been back three times under warranty for the infamous GMs steering half shaft rattle replacement. The dealers service mgr saw the GN hitch and asked how it does with the little short 5' 10" bed. No issues.
