We will be heading that way in June. Looking for a place to stay for 9 nights. We'll be doing Legoland, the zoo and SeaWorld. Currently planning to stay at Escondido RV http://www.escondidorv.com/ but would like something closer to the coast. The South Carlsbad park is full. Paradise by the Sea has pages and pages of total horror stories about them on the net. No way we are going to ruin our trip by staying there.

Any other options or should I just stay where I am planning?

that's going to be tough if you don't have reservations already.
summer coastal sites are taken very quickly, especially state beach campsites.
i agree that something in Oceanside might be available.

As others have mentioned, it's late in the camping season for a summer reservation (welcome to California!). I would also suggest you look at Campland on the Bay. It's a parking lot type RV Resort, but it's located right on Mission Bay, and convenient with your tow vehicle to Carlsbad (Lego Land) and other San Diego attractions.

I agree with the previous post, Campland by the Bay is a good choice, lots of activities for kids. KOA in Chula Vista is also very nice, clean, family friendly. You can also try to get a cancellation for San Clemente SB or South Carlsbad SB, but you'll be spending a lot of time on reserveamerica. Good Luck!

Check out the San Diego County Parks and of those I recommend Guajome for Legoland. $24/night water/electric.

There are still lots of sites available at most of the RV parks. The only place I have found so far that was booked was Carlsbad.

For those that have been to the Chula Vista KOA...is it like city camping? The pictures on their web site are poor and don't really show much in the actual camping area. Google maps make it look sorta like it's in the back of an industrial park.

The KOA is in a residential area close to the freeway. There are some stores and Starbucks you can walk to. It's not close to the beach, though, like Campland. You can check out more reviews on rvparkreviews.com The KOA is close to the zoo, but you can see the Sea World fireworks from Campland.
