Our children are grown and gone to NC. As a result we travel pretty often down the eastern shore and across 58 to Emporia and then south. They have never ticketed me, but the radar traps they run are truly excessive. We came back thru there Sunday at 8AM, and they had 3 cars out. One on I95, I guess they annexed more land to do that. One in town, and one on 58 heading east towards the Tidewater area. That couldn't be cost effective, we were about the only thing moving. I agree that speed control saves lives, and often catches criminals that are too stupid to slow down when hauling whatever they are hauling. However, enough is enough. The Feds have busted other towns, several in DE just north of us, maybe it's time for a little love for Emporia. Anyway just be careful as you travel thru the area

Yes, that is a true speed trap area.....I travel it all the time, and just set the cruise control as soon as I get into VA. They are getting at least $100 for the tickets and court costs, so it's quite lucrative for the area. These aren't State Troopers, but County or City Cops usually.....which I wonder about, since I-95 is a Federal Highway?

I've gotten a ticket there a few years back, and our son has also....we watch out now......and consider the trip between NC/VA border and Richmond as a SLOWER area.
Fortunately, they don't go crazy, in that they allow 5 mph over limit, without problems, but I'd worry if I wanted to go 10 mph over.....and besides, the speed limit there is 65 mph I believe?

That area has been that way for years. We saw many cars pulled over for tickets last August while traveling down to FL. We also noticed many local jurisdicion police cars pulling over vehicles on I 95 in South Carolina and Georgia that travel in their responsible areas. This is a money maker for them for sure. We use our cruise control and set it for 55 mph on route 58 which is the speed limit. Don't need a ticket for sure.
