We're looking at the following Class C's. A 2005 Fleetwood 29V with 102,000 miles, a 2009 Four Winds 28A with 60,000 miles or a 2009 Winnebago 29T with 62,000 miles. The Fleetwood and Winnebago are on the E450 Ford Chassis. The Four Winds is on the E350 Chassis. The Fleetwood and Four Winds are both rentals. Winnebago is privately owned. Any opinions?

Personally, With all things being about equal I would go with the Winnebago.
Like someone once said on the forum. What is the difference between a Rental RV and an All Terrain Vehicle?
The Rental RV can go anywhere.

Rentals? Unless they are really, really cheap, walk away. Ditto with a high mileage gas coach of any vintage as there are just too many other coaches with low miles that have been well maintained. You may pay a little more up front, but you'll have a better chance of having fewer problems.

Good luck with whatever choice you make.

We purchased a new to us Class C in December 2011. The short lists of manufacturers, must haves and can't haves was made and changed throughout our looking process. The one thing that never changed was that Winnebago was at the top of our manufacturers list. We purchased a 2000 Minnie Winnie DL and are very pleased.

Make your lists, do your homework, and make your decision. Do not second guess your decision. Buy and enjoy!!!!

Winnebago, for 2 reasons.

1. Better quality than the other two.
2. Personally, I'd NEVER buy an ex-rental.

We looked at 29T in a Winnie Chalet and really liked it. And the Winnie products are a cut above the rest in quality and factory support.
A non-slide coach on E450 will give you good carrying capacity.
So for me, the 29T...
Still, you have to like the floorplan and it has to pass chassis and house inspections.
The 2005 Fleetwood is likely on a 2004 chassis and lacking the TorqShift transmission. A later model chassis is a plus.

People we know who have Winnebagos are happy with them and they do seem to hold up a little better than other mid-priced RVs.

BUT...if you are having to choose between three RVs, it means you haven't found your RV yet, IMHO. Keep looking until you do!

I'd look closely at the Winnebago.

The Fleetwood I would rule out because of it's age and mileage.

The Fourwinds, I would rule out because it is on the E350 chassis. The 28A should be on a 450 chassis. Cruise America puts all their 28A's on 450 chassis and it makes for a virtually bulletproof, idiotproof unit.

That leaves the Winnie.

I would not rule out a unit because it has been a rental. Maintenance is usually very good with rentals, always questionable with private party units. Private party units usually have the widest collection of goofy mods and customizations. Rental units are usually bone stock allowing you to make whatever changes *you* want. Private party units usually do not get sufficient utilization and you end up with problems in other areas of the unit ... dry rot, leaks, etc.

In any case, whichever unit you choose, a thorough pre-purchase inspection is always recommended.

I would look at , in this case the Winnie. The E-450 chassis is going to be a beefier unit.
I would not rule out a rental ....from a National company, Top line Maint(they don't want it breaking down on their rental customer) Usually big security deposit on when it was rented...renter dosen't want to loose a lot of money, so , will treat it better than a rental car.

I also would prefer the unit being driven rather than sitting for a long time (most private owners -sit).

That's my $0.02.
