I like to lock up my truck bed after I park the trailer so I stuck with keeping the solid tailgate. I have the "FOLD-A-COVER" brand hard plastic folding bed cover which folds up behind the truck rear window and does not interfere with the fith wheel operations.
Since I have a tool box and my 2KW Honda generator and who knows what else back there it just gives me piece of mind to close up everything I can and keep it all out of site whenever possible. Like I tell everyone "My generator goes with me, where ever I go"
My Posts are IMHO based on my experiences - PM/EMAIL me

I bought a V gate before I damaged my OEM gate and boxed up and stored the stock gate in the garage. The above quote though, makes me chuckle

In a no wind condition I would expect little or no change. But let the gusting winds get into the small space under the front of the 5th wheel and "pile up" against a solid tailgate and you will FEEL the winds trying to stop the combo. Some say none, but in the 20+ years I towed I DID see a real difference. But it is up to you to decide if the small a change is worth the cost of a flo-thru tail gate. If you buy it for the convenience then I think that is also worth it.

This makes perfect sense. Whatever the shape of the front of a fiver, a lot of wind is getting pushed down into the TV bed. A vented V gate is bound to relieve that to some degree. If there is even 1/4 mpg improvement, I'll take it.
Ditto. You'll notice the difference when towing.

I love it for towing... my small utility trailer. The V notch allows me to see the utility trailer before it goes sideways.

I have run v-gate's on two different truck. There is no difference in fuel mileage with either stock or v-gate on.I run the stock gate in the winter.Empty or loaded I get the same mileage.

Yup. Bent my factory gate and replaced it with a v-gate. Managed to bend that one too. Have had no gate for the past couple years. Haven't bent one either.

Had stuff fly out of the bed with the stock bed pulling the fifth wheel. Put on a Turbo Net just to try the v gate deal out. Works great and not much invested. I always leave it on as I get get better vision out the back.

I waited until my truck was a week old and bought it AFTER I damaged the OEM tailgate, but I still boxed it up and stored it in the garage, dent and all. LOL
