96 Itasca Suncruiser on F53 chassis (Ford 460 engine)

The gasket on the cover is crushed and ripped in places which allows hot air to cook my foot and interesting smells to enter the RV.

What is the Winnebago part number for the gasket or a source and part number for a better replacement?

Can I improve the seal or blocking in the front lower corners?

Is there a special tool for the cover latch? I used a large flat screw driver, but it isn't fitting into a slot and doesn't feel right.

The tool for removing the cover is a large Allen (hex) head wrench. I don't recall the size but I bet someone will.
If you can't get a strip of the proper gasket material at an auto supply store you can call Lichtsinn Motors with your VIN. They can cross it to your coach ID number and sell you the part. They are a couple of miles from the factory and have provided great service over the years when I have ordered parts from them.
Their site is Lichtsinn Motors

i just replaced (actually *had* it replaced) the doghouse gasket on our 2000 itasca suncruiser (ford F53). got the part over the phone at Lichtsinn Motors in forest city, ia. they're a large winny dealer and an excellent source for parts.

the tool you need is a large hex (allen) wrench. you probably have the correct size in your tool box.

On our GBM the dog house gasket was just off the roll stuff like you would find at Lowes, etc.

if you buy at lowe's, home depot, etc. be sure that the material is rated for the high temps generated by the engine. just because the material looks the same doesn't mean it is the same.

On my ex-97 Suncruiser I took the gasket to the local auto joint and found an exact replacement. I also put 2 layers of insulation on the inside of the doghouse cover. The latch on mine was a rather large allen wrench. PS: The new gasket and insulation didn't stop some of the heat from escaping out and cooking my foot. I think it's the nature of the beast.

I have a 2005 Georgie Boy on the f53 chassis. I striped the carpet off teh dog hopuse and the flooring so I can replace it. I found a big hole on the left back corner. It was about 2"X 2" hole. My gaskit is in great shape. The only thing covering the hole was the carpet.
