I cross at Mexicali a couple times a year as I have a 5er on a lot in San Felipe. There are 2 Mexicali crossings. The east crossing is best. Are you towing? MH? There is road work on hwy 5 with just one small detour I beleive at this time. Just go slow and you should have no problems. 30 miles north of San Felipe you will have a Military checkpoint. They may ask you to get out of vehicle so they can do a look see. They will only be looking for guns & drugs.
I usually head to San Flip this time of year but issues keeping me here in NW this spring. My next trip south will be in Oct.
Have fun...San Filipe and the people are great!!!

The City is Calexico. It is called the east crossing. On I-8 take Hwy 7 south to the crossing.

The little town on the US side is Calexico. We were across there about 6 weeks ago and came back the same day. Easy cross. Mexicali is a big town, agricultural and manufacturing. Not really a touristy kinda place. From what we have seen it was a clean but simple looking city. Busy place though, at least at rush hour. They have a fairly significant chinese population and there are a gazillion chinese restaurants.

http://www.sanfelipelife.com/post/Direct........-from-Calexico-East-Gate-%28Left-Turn%29

The east crossing is on Hwy98 some 6 miles east of Calexico. The main crossing off Rt 111 had alot of construction last I heard.

I have never used the main crossing, always the east crossing. Coming out of the east crossing you can turn right or left to get to San Felipe. Last year turning right became a problem due to corrupt police seeking mordida(bribes).

The website provided above is how to go to San Felipe turning left out of the east crossing. Lots of stop signs, but few if any Policia.
