Has anyone actualy boondocked here? We have stayed at the North Glamis KOA, but heard there is boondocking off drop 31. We have a 41 ft MOHO plus trailer. So access needs hardpack.

We want easier access to the Bradshaw Trail and Little Rubicon Trail then from the KOA.

That trip will be awesome!!! There is a road that connects from mecca to I-10...box canyon, use to go there as a kid a must see. Never camped there but would in a heartbeat. Awesome place. Not familiar with drop 31. What is it?

Have camped there since 77. Couple years ago, undesireable locals started to frequent the area. It got to where we were afraid to leave camp on a long ride. Havent been back since.

Not sure how it is today ? There are some soft spots in the wash, best to plan your route in on a toy.

Heard it might be changed to an open area soon, was a limited use area last time I was there.

Great place to ride though.

My daughter and grand-daughter moved to Santa Anna Ca this last summer and Ive been looking for boondocking campsites with ATV riding somewhere between there and Phooenix.I saw the Bradshaw Trail and Bradshaw Road off Red Cloud Mine Road south of I-10.Is this area campable?.Ipull a 39ftr .Any suggestions? I looked at Josha NAT Park also, but riding looks scarce...going to N Quartsite in mid Feb but 2 hours for me, 4.5 for them. When it gets hot ,who knows.

I agree the Box Canyon cutoff to the I-10 is an awesome little drive. I wouldn't want to camp anywhere close to the Salton Sea. It can can pretty stinky at times.

Ohh yes it is a scenic ride for sure. I remember fishing at the Salton sea for many years as well. Every August, you could smell it all the way to Palm Springs. There has talk about reviving (if that's what you wanna call it) for 30+ years. Definately a place to see. Best time to drive through box is winter. We use to day trip out there. Nice place for sure. I saw a jeep vid on youtube, some guys out of SD area, really neat canyons they rode through, but like OP, I would like to find a good boondocking spot. The spots I know, are right off the road. For safety reasons, I would never camp at those spots.

We stayed at the North Glamis KOA in October and road a great deal of the Bradshaw along with the Little Rubicon trail in the RZR. Great slot canyons. Heard on the RZR forum that you could camp at "drop 31" which is a spot where the Coachella Canal goes underground. We road all the way to Oldsmobile from the KOA ,,, but a long ride and can't stay all that long due to travel time. Looking for a boondock spot along that area... of course.... only in winter.... won't be there when it gets above 80... wimpy...

There's a good book about the Bradshaw Trail called Gold Road To La Paz by Delmer G. Ross which is a mile by mile guide with side trails.
Where is "Little Rubicon"?
