Hello everyone,

New member to this forum. Last year I purchased a 1973 winnebago brave, one owner, few minor repairs finished. An issue I'm having is finding 8 X 17.5 tires at a decent price.

Are there other size tires that will work in place of these hard to find 8 X 17.5's?

Are they 17.5s? I had 8x16.5 on my 78 class C. If they are 16.5 you can find 16in rims at salvage yards to replace them with so you can get 16in tires that would be cheaper than trying to find 17.5s. I would suggest you take one rim with you to verify back spacing, bead width and hub diameter.

I was also able to find 16.5s at farm stores, they carried them because a lot of farmer had older trucks that used them, but that's been 15-20 years ago.

Moose,

For starters, you are not going to find them at a "reasonable" price. In fact, you may have trouble finding them at all. Those sizes were last on production vehicles near 40 years ago. So, demand is real near squat.

If you find them at all, it will most likely be a truck tire service. Forget about the hot dealing car tire places - Schett Man - they can't even manage my 16.5 and they are almost a decade newer and much higher volume.

You should also get with the Wini groups and find out where and what wheels to get to mount modern tires. This is what I have had to do.

Wheels aren't a hard conversion to make, but they are a monumental PITA to deal with during the change.

Don't feel bad, you could have a Revcon that needs 10*16.5 for the rear. Talk about an orphan.

Thanks for all of the advice guys!

The wheels are 17.5 and not split rims. I've looked at Double Coin and Yokohama truck summer tires for around 2 to 3 hundred each.

I was wondering if there was a metric equivalent out there, height and width wise in a 17.5. It has Michelin's on at the present time and they are in good shape with plenty of tread but just starting to crack on the sidewalls.

I'm looking to replace the front two this year and then the duals next year.

Thanks again for all the help!!!

I see that you are in Aurora, have you tried Brian's Tire in Denver? I bought tires from them for my '72 Winnebago for about $90 apiece They were a different size than yours but Brian's does have good prices. Otherwise you might also try TDS or Premier.

Many late-model Fusos use, IIRC, 215/85R17.5--those may work.

17.5, seriously, from back in 1973 ??.
I got a lot of grease under my finger nails along those years & never heard of that size before, but I guess if one could find a rim with the right bolt pattern, somebody could mount it up.

Check out Toyo's website. As you can see by my signature I have 17.5's on my rig, just might work for you.
