I think everyone knows how LOUD our range exhaust fans are. I was researching using a computer fan and ran across this article with photos (http://ourelkhorn.itgo.com/muffin.htm ) Fan Article. But what really interested me was the last paragraph of the article mentioning a variable speed computer fan for $19.99 found here
(http://www.frozencpu.com/products/2423/fan-109/SilverStone_SST-%20FM121_120mm_Case_Fan.html?tl=g36c435s1104&id=L43vAoVk ).Actual fan
A quiet variable exhaust fan is just what I think I need. My question is has anyone done this before? This fan only draws 0.4 amps and delivers 110 CFM air movement. Speeds are from 800 to 2400 RPM. Includes 9 blades with dual ball bearings.
Any comments appreciated.

I believe that the range fan is 3 bladed....I replaced mine with a 4 bladed fan from the bathroom and it made a huge difference in noise.

I have those type of fans in my computer case and your right, they are quiet and move a lot of air. If you decide to install one above your RV stove, I for one would sure like to know how you did it, so please post.

I find it hard to believe that a small case fan would move as much air as the stock fan and motor would, but now you've got me curious about it...
Anybody got some pics of the stock setup and/or the fan specs?

Think about this. Stove/oven is on- heat noramlly rises- all one has to do is create a path for rising heat to go to. Doesn't take a big fan to do this. I'm going to order one of these today. If it works out I may order another for the refrigerator.

Here's what I did and you will be amazed at the difference. Noise from the kitchen exhaust was the biggest complaint, air movement not a big deciding factor.
If you have one of those stock anemic bathroom fans in the bathroom vent, look at it. Now go look at the six bladed noise maker in your range exhaust fan. The blades can be swapped faster than it takes you to read this. The shafts are the same size and they just pull off. The outcome is the range hood is nearly silent and the bathroom fan becomes the noisy one. Not such a bad thing in the bathroom.
Try it, if you don't like the outcome, swap it back.

Went ahead and ordered the variable fan for the stove vent. Did some more research for a frig fan and came across this from Radio Shack.Frig Fan Scroll down the page to the 12VDC Micro Fan Model: 273-240. 1.5 inch square by .4 inch thick. 6500 RPM, 1.5 watts, 7.7 CFM, and brushless. Went down & bought and tested it on the bench. This little baby is super quiet and for the size really moves the air. Perfect for the refrigerator.
Now to mount it in the frig...
