We store our rv in a self storage yard less than 200 yards from our door. Have never considered wanting to camp. For some folks it seems silly to camp. They would rather sllep in a hotel. That is fine by me but I like to sleep in my own bed and can have our two fur babies with us.

WOW! If they think packing up & going RVing is work, try what we did for a weekend of boating.

Our boat was kept away from shore on a revolving mooring, not at a dock outside our house which would make it similar to packing up an RV.

For us it was pack 3 55qt coolers plus everything else needed into car. Drive to boat club where we had a 14' skiff (on a revolving mooring too.)

Unload car, walk stuff down 1 flt of stairs, get launch small dinghy to row out to skiff. Bring skiff to dock, load stuff into skiff, travel about 15 min to another bay where 'big' boat was kept. Transfer stuff from skiff to big boat, put it all away, do all the required engine checks etc before finally getting underway.

And so it was every Friday night May to end of Sep reversing the procedure Sun evening.

Time on the boat...priceless.

By comparison traveling by RV is no trouble at all.

You think that's work?? Try trailering a 26-footer while living in a condo!! Even with it stored less than a mile away from my condo, and the launch ramp being no more than 3 miles from the storage lot, setup, storage, and maintenance/refueling took no less then 4 hours... For nothing more than ONE DAY on the water.

I don't miss that at all!!

When it comes to "It's not worth it" many folks feel that way about many things.

Other folks.. Well, they get more enjoyment out of life.

Choices are good.. in fact they are mandatory.. For you can live only so long as TOTAL choices is greater then FATAL choices.

(Law of requisite choices)

We choose camping.. Some choose hotels.

Exactly our viewpoint...fewer hotels in the woods and mountains which is where we want to be. And take a look at this article (link), can't even reserve an aisle seat anymore without paying through the nose ($2680, full fare, refundable). When DW went to her aunt's funeral last year in the midwest, we ended up getting a first class seat for her, same issue, there were no window or aisle coach seats available in advance, only 24 hours before the flight.

So no, camping is not too much trouble...

How long is the outing for? To pull a 5th wheel that far for a short period of time, might be the reason. Imagine the gas cost. I would say it will probably cost them at least close to $700-800 to drive there and back depending on where at in Florida you are going. Perhaps they were going to take a vehicle with better gas mileage? Towing the 5th wheel will also take them longer, more than likely.
