So we are doing a bit of boondocking and have bought an inverter so I can run my TV and receiver. I merely plugged my shorepower cord into the inverter and all seems OK. Will do a better job of hardwiring when we get home. I also shut off the converter breaker in the fiver. Is this system OK for the short term and is there anything else I should be looking for or shutting down? In the desert so will not be checking back in for a few days. Any help appreciated.

The only thing I would be looking for is how fast my batteries were going dead.

When I installed my inverter I figured the simplest means of doing it was to wire two new circuits one near each TV. That way, even if I forget the worst that will happen is I have power on two separate circuits.

In addition to the converter, make sure the fridge is propane only, water heater is propane, and the air conditioner stays off. Otherwise plugging in the main cord can be a permanent solution.

Make sure you shut down your converter. You don't want to try and charge the battery's that are running the inverter - they'll just go dead faster.

I was originally going to do it that way but ended up buying a transfer switch and wiring shore power to it and the inverter output to it.
I do have a check list mounted next to the inverter showing which breakers to flip off before it is turned on.

I could have put in a sub-panel and avoided having to flip breakers but I didn't have enough room to do it.

Hi All.

For just powering your TV and Receiver, why not just use a smaller Inverter right at the sorce. And if you don't have a Cig Plug-in, addd one. We have been doing it this way for many years now with no problems. As said, your way will work, but why power up your whole system. Hope you have a very large Battery Bank. Adding a large Inverters is fine, if you have a very large Battery Bank, and maybe some Solar to go with it to help keep it charged up. For us anyways, we don't see the need for a lagre Inverter, and we mostly do all Boondocking also. We have several small Inverters that serves all of our needs just fine. And they are easy on our Battery Bank. But its your choice. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

That's what I do. I just shut off the breakers for my converter, A/C and MW. They're always off anyways as I use a separate standalone converter for charging/floating at home. Only use the OEM converter (or A/C and MW) when we're at full hookups.

I do the same for now. My Xantrex TrueCharge 2 automatically comes on when it senses AC power so I use it's remote to turn it back off. It's off button is right beside the Inverter on button.I also make sure the refer is on gas only. If it is on auto, it will try and switch to AC power. I also make sure my air conditioner can't come on.
