Question for all you "new" diesel owners. I had a 2005 Dodge 2500 with the Cummins engine (pre-emission "stuff") and I put an Aero-Turbine Muffler on it. I really liked the sound of it. Does anyone know if just changing the muffler (not a complete delete of all the emissions stuff) would have any adverse affect on my truck? I really liked the sound of the exhaust when that muffler was on there, but I don't want to risk damaging anything that would void my warranty.
Thanks!!

I could speculate what Dodge may say but your Dodge dealer will have that info for you.

No, won't hurt anything at all and Dodge generally doesn't care what you do from the muffler back - just don't touch anything associated with the DPF. However, having an aftermarket exhaust will cause them to look extra close for any other performance enhancement should a warranty issue arise.

I would be worried about the warranty implications. And, just to make it louder? Makes no sense to me.

I don't think that was the original post, he doesn't care what we think about extra noise. I know for a fact the muffler is after the DPF and therefore it is not an issue. You CAN remove the DPF as long as it goes back on and is "Stock" when Dodge sees it for maint. Also for emissions testing, but it is illegal to have it on for a test then take it off. If you burn an injector, Dodge will send it to their lab in Michigan to determine if the tuner was the reason for the failure. All in all, Dodge will work with you on your "mods" to a certain degree. You need to establish a rapport with your garage to know what they are thinking as well. I did this at the last two service centers I went to and they both were consistent.

Thank you for the folks who answered with useful info!! I really appreciate it. I know the Magnuson-Moss Act will help me to a point, but I just didn't know if the emissions systems on these trucks are so sensitive, that they could be affected by a muffler change.
Just to point out, I never said it was louder...just liked the sound of it.

You will not see any gains in performance or sound by replacing the muffler. It is really just a resonator. The Nox filter, Catalytic convertor, and the DPF will have the exhaust toned down to the point a muffler is unneeded.

Pretty much it in a nutshell....If OP want's to find out more about this go to the cummins forums, pick the 2010 and up forum and do a search or ask your questions there. They have a lot of Technicians and "gear heads" on the forum and it can be most helpful for some of the information your asking about.

I appreciate all the info!! Like I said, I had one on my '05 and really liked the way it sounded. Apparently, on the '11 it's so choked down by the DPF, NOX filter, etc...that putting this on won't make much of a difference anyway. Again, thank you all for the info and help!!!
