Im a little confused . This is the tag off the factory hitch of my F350 crew. This means a tongue weight of 1250 or 600#s? Or this means a GVWR on the trailer of 12500 or 6000#?
If its the lower , and I need more I can swap the hitch?
I'de like to know my limitations while shopping.
Thanks, sorry if this is an obvious question.

On edit, if the picture link isnt working the picture should be in the next post, thanks.

It means 600 lbs of weight on the tongue, and 1250 lbs of weight on the tongue if you are using weight distributing (the spring bars).

Steve,

As TVman44 stated, the 600# means a 600# tongue weight in "weight carrying" mode and up to a 6,000# trailer.

If you add a weight distribution hitch, then you bump up to a 1,250# tongue weight and up to a 12,500# trailer.

Seeing your sticker that lines up with the new F350 single rear wheels & F250 with the 6.2 gasser. If you put the diesel in it, it jumps to a 2 1/2" receiver and has more ability. Which makes no sense....

See here how I corrected the problem. I needed more tongue weight rating in WD mode.

Hope this helps

I don't know what it is about Ford and their misbegotten, wimpy tongue weight ratings on the factory hitches. An F150 will meet my needs except for the stupid 1130# tongue weight rating (tow rating is 11300#), even on the HDs. Ford seems to be hung up on a 10% tongue weight to tow rating ratio which might be fine for a boat trailer but most TTs and THs have a tongue weight to tow rating ratio significantly higher than 10%. To make matters worse, the later model F150s have an integrated rear bumper and hitch. I haven't found anything online that can replace the stock bumper/hitch with one that has a more reasonable tongue weight rating.

It isn't only Ford that has those wimpy hitches. I checked some friends Chevy and Dodge. They all seem to be wimpy hitches. Those are factory towing packages too. I have two F250 Fords. A 2002 and a 2008. Both of them had the wimpy hitches. I changed out my 2008 with a Curt class 5 hitch shipped from e-trailer. It was only about $200 which included shipping. The quality and difference from the cheapo factory hitch was amazing. I think it was well worth the peace of mind knowing I have a good hitch. That V5 rating on the factory hitch does not mean it is a class 5.

If you buy the class 5 Curt hitch you can get it with either the 2 1/2 inch opening or the 2 inch opening. I opted for the 2 inch opening.

I don't know what is so wimpy about a 1250/12500 rated receiver for travel trailer use. I wouldn't waste my money swapping it out.

The Ford factory hitch with the 1250 limit is fine for 90% of trailers. It would be fine for the light trailer in you signature.
Some larger trailers may require upgrading but for most the OEM is fine.
GM has had lots of issues with the tubular hitches on there 2007 and older hitches
