Hi,

You will need a much shorter toater home and a shorter trailer too! The maximum overall length in many states is 70' with 65 being more common. 60' overall is rare, I think Washington DC is the only one that restrictive.

I remember reading on a racing form, probably a drag racing form, that the poster was told that having RV NOT FOR HIRE PRIVATE COACH on the toterhome meant nothing to the authorities in that state.

That state considered that if you raced for any prize money or had any type of sponsorship involved that you were a commercial vehicle and had to comply with the commercial license requirements. Registration, CDL rules, etc.

Unfortunately I don't remember which state.

Hi - correct info already given. I think Alaska is the only state that goes over 70' and they too out at 75' without overload status. Most of the lower 48 come in at 65' to 70'. I think DC is 55'.

I am sorry for the negative news, but a rig near 80' will stick out like a sore thumb and be an easy target for DOT and troopers everywhere.

Good Luck!

What brand of 42-foot Motorhome are you looking at?

I'm impressed by the 37-foot size of the trailer (with cars, I presume) that it's able to tow.
It must be a real beast!

North Carolina has the same rules about Private vs. Commercial. It is stated that if you have sponsorship or compete for money then you fall into the commercial class. We ran into this several years ago that the King Mackerel boats going to tournaments were indeed classified as commercial. Several got serious fines for over length and over width, no wide load banners, and orange flags on the trailer.

Just be careful.
