We are currently in the RGV (Harlingen, TX area). March 1st the jacks go up and the tires hit the asphalt. We plan on following the Gulf coast to Rockport, Galveston and then leave Texas near Port Arthur/Beaumont area.
We have never been to LA or AR. Looking for RV park recommendations (we have Passport America). Places to see, things to do. We plan on heading north (sometime)to Arkansas and heading further north to Minnesota, home.
We already have three nights at Goose Island St Pk reserved for March 1. After that, it's open.
TIA

A couple of years ago I did a review of Sam Houston Jones State Park near Lake Charles. I give it a general thumbs up.

Look up Clear Springs Campground (COE) south of Texarkana, TX. Beautiful park.

I was detoured by some equipment problems a couple months ago and accidentally ended up at Woolly Hollow State Park near Greenbrier, AR. It was a pleasant surprise. The whole place has been recently refurbished and a new loop added. All with paved, level, e/w/s sites.

Although I am currently in Southwest Louisiana, I have nothing to offer but can give you great ideas for Arkansas. When you go north to Mena you need to either stay at Queen Wilhelmina State Park or Cedar Lake (in Oklahoma- a federal park with full hookups) and take the Talimena National Scenic Byway which runs from Eastern Oklahoma to Western Arkansas. It is a beautiful drive and a nice area to stay for a couple of days.

The big ticket is an area between beaumont and shreveport...a big grove of pine trees on either side of the texas louisiana state line, so there's not much else along the drive, but the roads on the texas side are good.
Hodges Gardens near Many La is worth a stop... seems there's camping close to the gardens.
Washington Ark is an old town, pretty much left that way, and up the road is
Murpheesboro Ark near Crater of Diamonds state park.
Hot Springs Arkansas is certainly worth your time... cloud 9 campground is a nice place, but there are others.

Red Shoe RV Park
Just north of I-10, Kinder, LA. Very nice park, inexpensive and shuttles to the casino. They offer a coupon, if you stay 3 nights the 4th and 5th nights are free.

Thanks for the replies so far. I've had other suggestions for stopping in Hot Springs, so that will be a stop. I'm not a big Wal-Mart fan but their history is interesting and some friends have suggested stopping in Bentonville.
