Buying a new TT. Where do you cross the line between buying used to save money (with a higher interest rate vs paying more to get a new TT, but with a lower interest rate?
In other words, there is obviously a reason to pay more for a new TT with a warranty and brand new equipment, but buying off Craig's List has its benefits.
So if I'm going 'all-in' to buy a 31' TT to last for the next 10+ years, new or used? If used, how old should I go?

What is 'all-in'? Why a 31' TT? I seriously doubt you will keep whatever you buy for 10 years. If payments hurt, then make them as low as you can. Good luck.

First go to www.rvknowhow.com and read the Kieva's suggestions for how to select an RV. When you find THE RV for you buy it if the money and timing is right.

Buy new if you are sure you will keep it ten years. If not sure, buy used to save depreciation.

One of the nice things about our used MH, was that we got so many added features from the previous owners, that were basically FREE, since most of the time, we buy based on BlueBook prices.....or even less.
We got solar (with extra batteries and upgraded Inverter), hydraulic leveling jacks, upgraded sound system, as well as the hoses, drain lines, etc.
Wouldn't have had that with a new unit, unless we paid lots extra.
Also, any issues that they may have had with warranty issues initially, have been cleared by now.....hopefully!

I won't tell anyone how to spend thier money. For me, I've only owned two new cars and 8 used cars. Both my TT's were new. TT's are not all that expensive and quality units that are well taken care of retain decent value.
No way in hades would I buy a brand new DP when a nice used one can be found for less than half the new price after about 5-7 years.

First RV ?
Buy used.
My first trailer 16 foot nomad I bought used and kept it 3.5 years.
Bought a bigger trailer with a slide.
Even though I had a new chevy 2500 pickup with a 454 I did not care for the weigh the 26 with slide towed in crosswinds. I kept it a year.
I bought a late model 36 foot diesel pusher and only kept it about 1.5 years because it was not versatile enough for boondocking and Resort type RV parks.
My last 21T Komfort , I ordered new with all the berries. It is a 2002 but I had it all summer of 2001.
It took my fourth RV to find what works best for me.
I've been towing boats since 1964 so I was not new to towables.

I've always looked at the issue from a slightly different perspective.
Number one, the decision is predicated on what your budget will withstand but when that is not a factor, I have always preferred buying new for several reasons. Warranty is one MAJOR reason for purchasing new and I'm not talking about JUST the structure of the RV but more important is all of the individual, third party appliances inside.
The MAIN reason I have a big preference for new is that I really enjoy "people watching" in campgrounds and other places RVs are frequently seen and as such I see all of the things people are apt to do to them. I see all kinds of things that I would NEVER do to one that I owned and by purchasing new I can be pretty sure they've never been abused that way.
Good luck / Skip

Until I hit the lottery I will not buy new. As soon as it is driven off the lot you take a heck of a hit on the cost of the RV or any vehicle for that matter. I mean you're talking thousands of dollars. If you look long and hard you can find late model anything that has not been used or in new condition. I just bought a 06 Montana that lived in a barn and was used very little. It looks new inside and out. My last 5er an 03 Alpenlite also used very little in fact the stove and oven were not used at all, the microwave still had the plate and books still wrapped in plastic. But you got to know what you're looking at and you got to take your time and check everything. it's the same with vehicles. Now if it makes you nervous buying used then you can always buy an extended warranty and still come out ahead. Now just as soon as I hit the lotto, heck then I'll walk on the lot and write the checks.
