Why is the door on DP's in the front and for gassers it's in the middle? Knowing as a general rule that DP's are higher end, to me the door mid-coach is easier, safer, and free of obstacles like the dash and co-pilot seat. Just pondering. ~ I know it's not the case 100% of the time so please do not respond with specific albeit rare instances where this isn't the case. I am speaking generally.

Because that it the way it had always been done and not enough people complained about it enough to change it.
They just used the bus chassis mentality, which, for the most part, put the door up front.

Because it frees up wall space, and allows for a curb-side slide in front.

Anybody remember the Greyhound buses with a passenger seat up by the driver?? The door on them was further back, behind the passenger seat. Other than that, the DP front door is from the old bus mentality.

On gassers the engine is in the front, therefore most have a "dog house" which you would have to maneuver around to get in. The diesels don't have that so it's easier to access from the front. By having a front entrance the walls further back are better utilized allowing for an easier placement of furniture etc. Also, you can't have a door in a slide......Dennis

This is the main reason IMO, that being said there are side door DPs out there, we wanted one for ease of access and other reasons and were lucky enough to find one we liked.

It's so passengers can't bypass the farebox.

You know, that's something I never would have thought of.
