We are getting ready to buy our first TT and really don't know how the enormous amount of TT MFG's stack up. Who is considered the "Lexus" vs the "Pinto"....ie who is the average MFG comparable to a Ford or Chevy....vs a Honda or Toyota?

Where is a good place to go for financing if you buy off Craig's List?

Is is buying a book like J R Consumer for RV's worth the money?

Determine the weight, size and floor plan you like first. Then research all of the manufacturers that offer a floor plan that meets your needs. Then negotiate prices and buy the best value. I looked for 3 years and almost pulled the trigger 3 different times. Finally found the exact match of what I was looking for in price and value.

you have to get the one that reaches out to grab you and holds on for dear life. a good place to borrow money is not the banks but a credit union. they are more likely to loan money these days

"The Ford of Travel Trailers"????
I can't tell if you think that's a good thing or a bad thing.

Are we talking about the "Ford of the Edsel" or the "Ford of the 1965 Mustang"?

I'm just using 'ford' as a means of a good reliable product. Not something cheap and not something really expense. I'm specifically talking about quality. Ie where does a Keystone stack up on Quality vs a Coleman vs a Jayco vs ?????

I"m looking for a 28 - 31' travel trailer with a 'bunk house' in the back so it will sleep around 8-10 people. My wife and I like the Keystone Premier and the Keystone Cougar options as examples.

I know you mean the exact opposite, but the Edsel was a higher-line car built out of higher quality components than the '65 Mustang. The first Mustangs were built on Falcon chassis.

It's a lot harder judging TT's compared to cars. Just because a TT uses a cheaper interior doesn't make it less reliable. For reliability look at axle strength, thickness of A-frame and frame rails, how the A-frame attaches to the frame. Some like aluminum interior frames, others wood, some like aluminum skins, others fiberglass. If you want to camp in the cold what's the "R" factor, are the tanks heated or covered.
Inside it's more about what you want. Some like corian counters, others are fine with linoleum. First thing I check is the bed, is it long enough and wide enough to sleep comfortable in. Next is the storage, can I carry what I need. After that it's personal taste.

Like my Keystone, but I am now having a problem with the slide after owning it for only 14 months (out of warranty). If I were buying new today, I would go with a company that believes in their product enough to offer a 2 year warranty.

Thanks for the feedback, good ideas. What MFG's do you have experience with? Are there any I should be avoiding?
