Another way to be sure what is in there is to pull the differential cover and count the number gear teeth on the ring gear and divide by the number of teeth on the pinion gear. 41 teeth on the ring gear and 10 teeth on the pinion is a 4.10 ratio.

Wonder if anyone ever read any of these threads on folks changing out their
OEM diff ratio?

Especially if the OP bought their TV used...all of the labels only tell what it
left the factory with...not what it has if the previous owner(s) changed it out

Guess the OP 'might' get a surprise when his mechanic opens and takes
out the one in there to find it is already what the OP wants...or if
the mechanic isn't that honorable...swaps it out anyway to save the
old or even the new set to resell...

Changing out to 4:10 gears

My suburban 342 change to 373 or 410???

True! but the chances of the gears being changed out on a truck, especially if it was never used for anything other than basic transportation, is slim. if the previous owner was towing something or he was a hotrodder then maybe yes. otherwise I think the chances of it having been replaced are less than 5%.

Okay, but for arguments sake...there are <5% out there and the gamble for the OP
is that his is not in that bucket...

It's his money, not mine, but if mine, taping a length of string and rolling
the vehicle one tire rev is peanuts compared to purchasing the gear set and
then paying for the labor. Double that if a 4x4

OK, I agree with you. it is an easy way to do it. and I too would like to know for sure before I spend my money. but I still say it has probably never been touched, probably never even been serviced!
