I have a 1999 Dodge Durango Magnum V8 5.9 L engine. I found a towing guide that states it could tow 7400 lbs with a "rear axle ratio of 3.92" Where do I find information on what my axle ratio is? I looked in the owners manual and couldn't find the answer and also on the door sticker. Thanks in advance.

Unless you are the original owner, the previous owner(s) may have changed out the
gear set (just look up on these forums and you'll find many doing that)
Best to tape a length of string on the drive shaft. Mark a datum. I like
straight down.
Roll the vehicle on tire rev using the valve stem as a datum
Count the full number of turns and then the fraction of a turn
That is the diff ratio and makes no matter what tire size (under sized or
over sized), lifted, etc.
Remove the string.

Open the hood and look up, sticker should be stuck to the drivers side.

I had a 5.9 in my 1999 Durango and it pulled great, and I did have the 3.9 gear. Hope yours does too.

Probably a 3.55! the 3.90 was usually a special order. very few came with it from the factory. look inside the glove box door. should be a sticker with all the info. you want there.

There is a tag under one of the diff cover bolts. It will have the ratio stamped on it.

Wonder if anyone ever read any of these threads on folks changing out their
OEM diff ratio?
Especially if the OP bought their TV used...all of the labels only tell what it
left the factory with...not what it has if the previous owner(s) changed it out
Guess the OP 'might' get a surprise when his mechanic opens and takes
out the one in there to find it is already what the OP wants...or if
the mechanic isn't that honorable...swaps it out anyway to save the
old or even the new set to resell...
Changing out to 4:10 gears
My suburban 342 change to 373 or 410???

Thanks for all of replys. I'll check these spot tommorow and to be safe have my mechanic look at it to confirm.
