Help. Last august our dealer installed the Barker vip 3000. All worked well till november when it stopped working. I called barker and they sent a new switch. I just installed today and this did not solve the problem. In inline fuse is good, and tt's battery is charged. The light on the jack is also not working. The dealer grounded the jack on the negative post of the battery. The directions said to ground it on the frame. Could this be the problem. Thanks Bob ps We are 75 miles from dealer and would perfer not to take it back.

I always had mine "ground" to the frame of the rig. Not sure if that is your problem, but it is probably the first thing I would try.

At least on mine the unit was grounded just by installing it.
It came with aggressive washers that would maul the paint.
Mine also has a "slow blow" fuse which I admit I am not sure
how those actually work. Put a meter on the input of the fuse
wire and ground it to the trailer and see if you have power at
least to the fuse. If so the the cover comes off with 2 screws
and all terminals are accessible so you can test those too.

Our Barker had only a single wire that runs to the positive post on battery and is grounded using a star washer (scraped paint away for better contact) on one of the mounting bolts. It appears that power jack is not getting 12VDC if light is not turning on, double check all connections including fuseholder. Using a voltmeter will assist you in finding the problem.

they make star washers just for cases like this. place the star washer between the base of the jack and the tongue. when you tighten up the bolts, the washer digs into the tongue and and the base of the jack and you have a ground. I would replace the fuse and see if it really is good or not. some times they don't look like they aren't the problem but they really are no good. also if they are the blade type, it may not be make good contact inside the holder. it it's the tube type check to see if the contact points are clean, wire bush them or us sand paper to clean them

Sounds like either a ground problem or +12v. I've known fuses to "look" fine, but have problems.
Like others have said... use a volt meter or test light to test the positive source.
I'm curious how they grounded it to the battery... sound suspicious to me. As others state, Barker included a lock washer with mine to install between the jack's bottom plate and the frame. If I had to guess, I'd suspect the installer's "improved ground" is the culprit.

Why? Don't even know how you would do that with a Barker??
Barker says the jack grounds through the frame.. Star washer and I scraped away some of the paint to make sure..Worked flawlessly until we sold the trailer 5 years later.

We had trouble getting a good ground to the frame with the star washer - I think the salt air was corroding the connection. The solution was to run a ground wire directly from the battery to a bolt on the jack so there is a solid connection.
Anyhow, these jacks draw a pretty good current, and all the connections need to be good. The advice give above to double check all the connections with a meter should help figure it out.
Another thing to try would be to use the hand crank to move it a turn or two - I never had ours apart, but there might be some limit switches in there that got jammed up .....

When mine suddenly stoped working this summer I did a lot of and then found the wing nut that holds the one wire from the jack to the + post on the battery was loose.
