Anyone know of places to park RV's near Glendive or Sidney MT or anyplace in western North Dakota? I have a friend who needs work, has a self contained RV but doesn't know if he'll find a spot over there. Thanks.

In the first place, that's Glum-Dive (trust me)
The only place I know of is Glendive RV Park, which is open only spring/summer/fall. But then no sane person would want to be in an RV in winter... what am I saying, no sane person would want to live there.
There are jobs in the oil-field service industry, the trick would be finding one. The unemployment rate there may be low, but the job openings are not as strong as you might hope.
Personally I would not move there, without at least a job lead.

When someone tells you to buy the same rig they own, listen, they might be right. When they tell you to buy a different rig then they own, really pay attention, they probably know something you don't.

We ended up motelling it when we passed thru a couple years ago on Hwy 2, couldn't find an RV CG. I haven't lived in that area but I did in Idaho and you have to be crazy to consider living in an RV during the winter up there.

There is absolutely nothing in western ND right now unless you can find some farmer to let you squat with an extension cord. Even then the counties are only allowing 3 RV's per farmyard for "safety reasons". Farmers are also renting their property to the tune of $600-$800/month. I live in Minot but my kid just played hockey in Williston last week and there must have been 150 RV's in Wal-Mart's lot. Wally world must have special rules there as it appeared many had been there some time. All the camp grounds are full so a tourist can't even stop over for a night as the oil folks have all the slots LONG-TERM rented. As for coming up here with a RV this time of year, I would wait. You will have to put skirting around the trailer, heat tape on the lines, install an entry way with a storm door to keep the wind out and heat in your camper and this is just not feasible during the winter months with 20 above to 20 below zero trying to manipulate plastic etc. If a skirting job would take 3hrs to complete, make it 6-8 in the cold weather. Just my $.02 though.

I've heard of horror stories about finding a place to go in western ND. If I had to go up there, I'd probably just hotel it and not compete with the oilmen who have every available square inch of land taken for hundreds of miles around their worksites.

I must say to those who have not been in this situation, please withhold your conjecture.
These are people with a real need dealing with home and housing issues while trying to do an honest days work. In most cases there is a failing in the place they used to and wish they could still call home.
Realistically you should support these brave souls who are willing to chance the perils of the unknown for a chance at a future. Not easy, sure. Undoable no. I lived this life.
To the credit of these hardy folks they have chosen to leave their homes for the chance of better opportunities, where they can hold their head high and have pride that there is still a New World Dream.
I ask where would you be now if your ancestors did not wish for you to have a better life than the old country, or choose only easy climates.

My hats off to those folks who are trying to find work and are willing to tough the winter out in an RV. They aren't sitting around complaining about no jobs and waiting for something better to show up that's more to their liking. Good to see some of the old pioneer spirit is still alive and a person is wanting to put up with conditions that aren't so great so that they aren't a drag on society. Sure the winters in ND and MT aren't the most pleasant, but it sure beats unemployment

There are a lot of folks who could learn a few things by reading John Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath".

Not saying that they shouldn't come to ND, just want them to be armed with facts. I would hate to go gold mining and no one told me to bring a shovel or a pan. I admire the fact that folks are willing to take a chance on a new life and I wish them the best. I just wanted to get them the best info I could as I am living here amongst all of the activity. I hope I didn't come off as negative in my previous post.
