We are planning a trip to the Island in late June and was looking into the RV parks. It seams that the KOA is the best and nicest on RV park reviews that is also next to the water. What are the Premier pull-thru sites like for 5th wheels? They have the ones for motor homes only but the premier sites face the bay and bridge.
What are your thoughts of the park and it premier site?
Any and all advise would be helpful!
Thanks

We stayed at it before it changed to the KOA in 2006. I was not pleased with the site being so close together. Our awning was within inches of the other campers slideout. Then it was all white rock that reflected the sun. DH and I would have rather stayed in the county park. It might not look the best but a least it had sand & some grass and walking distance to the beach. Our non-camping friend told us not to stay at the county park, never listen to a someone who does not camp. Maybe some other camper will have better reviews.

Gavin,
The KOA is on the bay. No walking the beach there.
You would have to drive over to the county park or one of the other
public entrance to get to the beach.
Go to the county park. Right next door. Its on the beach.
Also there is a waterpark just outside the gate.
Do a search on Camron County park. Look at the rv spaces.
The sites from C90 to C103 are very good sites.
C103 and C98 are the best.
But those that are on the far left two rows back from the bathhouse.

Just spent a week there in the premium row with a direct water view, very nice park we would go there again. I did not feel that the spots were too close to each other as we walked the whole park many times in the week we were there. The county park is big and packed.

Stayed at both parks and it really depends what your cup of tea is. County park is on the beach, crowded, and can be noisy, but since we have kids it was the better choice for us. The KOA is on the bayside and some sites have limited space but it is toned down compared to the county park and therefore less hectic and somewhat quieter. Enjoy your time in South Padre!!!

I only know of the one.-- Cameron County Park--Isla Blanca is the other name for it.
We use to go there all the time. It was not crowed or packed nor was it noisy.
I guess things have changed.

We live in the area and weekend frequently at South Padre:
1.) Isla Blanca--county owned...basically a huge, open parking lot with tight spots (albeit some pull-through at the end of the park away from the beach)...lots of burrs....has two big pavilions and a kinda rusty playground for kids...re. walking to the beach--unless you get a spot on teh beach side of the park, it's a good walk or short bike ride to the beach itself...website and info can be found at co.cameron.tx.us (work your way through to 'parks department'...standard is two concrete tracks to park on, but many sites have been upgraded with concrete slabs on curb side so you have some grass-free area
2.) KoA: nice, with a small store and facilities like a rec room and patio overlooking the bay....really clean and fresh...spots farther apart than at isla blanca, but not as spaced out as in a state park...more shade...koa.com...would have to drive to the county park or to one of the 15 or so beach access points to get onto the beach itself (can also access the beach by parking in a hotel lot and walking through, but just don't get caught!!! :-) )...gravel pads
3.) Long Island Village: RV resort in Port Isabel, at the other end of the causeway...18 hole golf course, two pools, that sort of thing....golf carts whizzing by from every direction....longislandvillage.com...do not believe it has any pull-through sites...we've been there ten or twelve times and all have been back-in....but....BUT...the sites are all double-width concrete pads
4.) another option--Andie Bowie Park...also on SPI/also owned by the county/wide open, but on the beach
good luck!

Thanks for all the info. It looks like the KOA would be the best fit for us. I would be nice if it was closer to the beach though. Please continue the replies.
