the most objectionable commercial on TV that I have ever seen in 70 years.
Person after person SCREAMING at the top of they're lungs, one after another, so loudly that I grabbed the remote and hit MUTE as quickly as I could.
I read that they going to redesign they're stores and change the way they're sales were to be scheduled, BUT this has forced me to never again enter a JC Penney Store even if they were to give everything away for free.
Has the average customer sunk so low as to be impressed by such an ad and rush to see what is for sale. R.I.P JCP.
I have never boycotted any business in my life, but this time it's different.
Rant finished.

It's a shock add, they want folks to remember it. They are doing away with sales and reducing all of their prices 40%. They will then have the sale of the week and a sale of the month, something like that. No more end of year sales no Holiday sales.
I agree it is a raw pitch.

My wife had the same reaction as you did, she wanted me to call JCP and complain. She likens it to the horrible Target ads that ran before Black Friday.......
Now me, I can not stand the stupid characters for all the insurance companies, The Progressive "Flo", Century 21, and the new Direct pitchman, "J.J.", the Geico lizard, and on and on..........

The JC Penny advertisement was not very effective for me. It took a couple of times for me to know what they were advertising and only once to decide I didn't like it.

Granted we can agree that we all hate the screaming Target Christmas commercial and now the JCP screaming add but you have to admit, we all know what commercial they elude to and remember it. I guess by reverse physiology the add works....but for me, like many, because of the irritation factor, I'll be d.... well I won't shop there because of it.

I put all screaming ads on mute when they come on...
Sears tried this same tactic of lowering all their prices several years ago, and it flopped badly. I would expect JCP's tactic to last less than a year, but who knows...things have changed. When Sears did it, Costco and Sam's Club and other big box stores weren't around like they are now.
Personally, I don't like the ads, but JCP is one of the better "still existing" department stores that actually have good customer service.

I agree - pretty irritating.
But it works. So good that there is a thread on an RV forum about it.

This irritating screaming ad is in the same category as some of the humorous ads, such as the "wee, wee pig" ads. The problem with them is people either love them or hate them, but marketing survey after marketing survey has shown that all have one failing, that the majority of people that remember the ad don't recall the product brand being advertized.

Exactly! The pig ad is my least favorite of all...and I haven't a clue what company is using it for their advertising.
