By Friday, Feb 3, 2012 I-70 in eastern Colorado will be closed due to a major snow storm that has started this evening along the front range and in the metro Denver area.

According to the Denver late TV news shows the 4 largest school districts in the metro Denver area have already announced that they will be closed tomorrow. The heavy snow is expected to continue through Friday.

10 to 24" is forecast with the highest amounts on the eastern plains. This storm will probably move into Kansas and farther east over the weekend.

We have 10" here is Loveland and it is coming down hard. A real wonderland. Bet you wish you were here! As previous posted noted I-70 is in fact closed east of Denver mainly because of a jackknifed semi. Not a good day for traveling east of the Rockies today.
I have a white dog and I'm keeping him inside today!

I'll take that bet, we haven't seen a flake all winter, & love it that way.

I just looked at the CDOT web site and just about every major road on the eastern plains is listed as closed. The weather forecasters actually got their forecast correct this time.

CM - what are the current conditions in Summit and Eagle counties?

Virtually nothing. One or two inches at best. The CDOT webcam for Vail looks like nothing.

This is a front range, eastern plains up slope storm so the mountains get little or nothing. It looks like the western edge for the storm is Idaho Springs.

If you draw a line from Conifer north to Blackhawk, Nederland, Jamestown the numbers seem to be two to three feet, especially at the higher elevations. But the storm doesn't seem to even reach the eastern side of the Continental Divide.

Pretty brutal, here on the plains about 30 miles east of Denver. I-70 closed in both directions between Kansas and Airpark Road (near Aurora). CDOT says it may stay closed until Sunday.

This is outside my front door!

I grew up in Bethune Colorado and still have family farming in Bethune and Burlington, so I am happy to see that they got some snow because of how dry it was. Should help the wheat out some.
