In about a month, our family is pulling up our native California roots and moving to Ohio(Toledo area).
I have a 27 foot Komfort TT that I'm towing back there from the S.F. bay area. When storing here in California, one does not have to Winterize a TT.
What must I do to protect the water lines and other areas of the TT when I store it in the Winter time in the Toledo area?
There are two drain plugs for the hot and cold lines underneath the TT. Each line has a threaded plug. Also I have a main drinking water tank release that dumps water pretty fast.
So, what do I do to keep from having water lines break open and other areas of the TT that contain water, like the water heater, etc.?
If we get to Toledo in early March, does the TT still need to be Winterized?

First of all, welcome to the Midwest....flyover country to most folks living on the coasts.
Yes you need to open all the lines as well as drain the hot water tank. The safest thing is to bypass the hot water tank after it drains then fill the lines with RV antifreeze. And yes, March in Toledo can have freezing temps. It's been fairly mild all through the region this year but that doesn't mean it can't turn nasty in a hurry.

Hi,
Yes March can be really cold in that area. What I would do is blow out the water lines with a air compressor, set at about 35 PSI, there area adapters to fit on the water inlet fitting that work pretty well. Be sure to open each sink, toilet, and outside shower to let out all the water, then the low point drains, and you should be good. Run the pump a little bit dry (about 10 seconds should clear out any remaining water from it) and the lines will be full of air. Any remaining water will not freeze into pipe busting size ice cubes.
If you plan on camping on the way back east, one simple way is to use 1 gallon jugs for drinking water and flush water. Whatever amount of water ends up in the black and grey tanks will not really matter much, and it will probably freeze while driving if any temperatures are below freezing.
After arriving in your new hometown, look for a RV dealer that you can dump at, or go camping if there is a campground open, and dump at that time. Even if the water sits for a week or two, it will not smell bad because it will not be in the 70's.
You will need to remove the drain plug from the water heater to get most of the water out. I like to disconnect the wiring plug for the water heater when I drain it, so I don't accidentally turn it on while it is still empty.
You can use the refrigerator without problems, and furnace can be turned on while looking for a place to camp, pre-warm the RV while parking, to help reduce load on the battery. The battery should stay charged pretty well with driving 5 or more hours per day.
Are you planning on taking I80 across? Check weather.com before leaving, make sure Reno is not suffering from a snow storm, and you should be fine the rest of the trip. If there is a storm, it will try to sneak up from behind you, and you can outdrive it with a couple of 8 - 10 hour days.
Have a great trip!

Fred has some very good points .. .........
But, most all of us who blow out the lines, also put pink stuff in (don't forget the drains)
One thing from some one who lives in cold country(We are warmer than Toledo many times due to the warm lake)....Your fridge WILL NOT cool proper if it is below about , oh say 25 degrees outside.
It works on Evap., and when it is cold outside, it will think it is cold allready.
You prob. wont have much of a issue with the fridge part, but the freezer Will Not stay below about 20, 25 or higher , if it is cold out.
I keep mine on from about April-thru Oct, Nov....... and this year , I had wanted to keep some stuff in the Freezer longer, due to little spare room in my home freezer..........but had to empty it, shut it down, as the freezer temp kept rising, when it got colder out.
It is not a fridge issue with my unit, because on a couple days it warmed up to 40, 50............and the freezer temp dropped to 10, 0 degrees.
So, be advised it won't work "Right" in cold weather.

I have never used RV antifreeze in anything but the drains. I blow out the lines, drain the hot water tank and all is good.
Have you bought a home yet? If not you are going to be banking a lot of cash. Homes around here are about one third (maybe less) then they are in your area. You can by a new 3800 sq ft home 3 car and 10 acres for about 400k. If you have not bought and are thinking about building send me a PM and I can give you the names of some good builders. I have done work for most of them at one time or another.
I do have to ask WHY OH WHY TOLEDO?????
We are just south of Toledo and I think you will like it here, there are some great areas to camp and the lake effect snow misses us. We are on the southwest corner of the lake. So far this winter we have not even shoveled the driveway If you like to fish I have some nice honey holes that you can pull large crappie from. They are like eating candy.

I disagree... At least about Toledo. No better place than right on the Great Lakes! Easy access to Michigan - and Canada - and Chicago. An RVer's dream country.
As far as winterizing - you've got good advice. I would only add that you just need to think like a liquid. Liquids expand and get hard when they freeze. You will have to take out anything with liquid in it - lotions, canned food, pop, BEER...
