Hi,
I stayed in Mountaindale C.G and did side trips to Royal Gorge,Pike Peak with my tow.
It is a great C.G, excellent location and very friendly owners that are on the grounds-say hello to David Emy from me.
Enjoy.

We also stayed in Mountaindale. It's a good place to stay. Just don't arrive in the dark! We drove through Cheyenne and would love to stay there. Beautiful scenery and view of the city from the mountain! I understand it's really hard to get reservations though.

All good choices recommended...I would add Mueller State Park....you can view Pikes Peak from your campsite.....and it's an exceptionally clean park with lots of trails and activities for kids...IMHO, of course

Only problem with Mountain Dale is it's 18 miles out of Colorado Springs. With 2 kids, there will not be much for them to do. Cheyenne Mountain would be my first choise. JMHO

The best in the C/S area is Cheyenne Mtn. S.P. New, clean, views, FHUs, close to everything. Make reservations NOW!
Mountaindale is 18 miles from C/S, crowded and small sites. Mueller is coolest because of altitude, has decent site but only electric.

Mueller is a beautiful park, but like many Colorado parks, it is reserved well in advance. Weekends are especially difficult. It isn't everyone's cup o'tea, but we like this one. Not fancy, no concrete, but utilities are good, it's quiet, and it's available.

Have to agree that Golden Eagle, ie May RV Park is not for everyone. It has not had improvements in years and most sites are not level. Many of the utility hookups are in the wrong place so long hoses and cables will be needed. We stayed there a couple of times in the past but now there are other better choices.
