06 2500HD Duramax LBZ Crewcab 4x4 pulling 36" Jayco Eagle (high profile 5er)
Towing - For trip planning, I estimate 10 mpg. I set the cruise at 68 and sit back and relax. Mountains in NY, PA, WV, I usually get a little less - 9.8, flat ground I get a little better 10.5. Empty with summer fuel around home (back roads and some city) 18.5 running speed limits (30 to 55). Winter blend fuel, same around home, 17.9. I put a high profile bed cap on for winter and that lowers my mpg to 17.4.
Ran an 02 2500HD 4x4 crew cab 6.0L 4.10 gasser prior to my current truck. averaged 13 empty around home, 7.5 to 8.0 towing same rig. Couldn't tow comfortable with cruise and every hill became a mountain. Pulled OK but I am happier with my current truck.
I have reservations on some peoples' claims on mileage. They remind me of a fisherman and the size of the fish that got away. Gets bigger every time the story is told
Good luck regardless of the rig you run, Mike

Slow down about 5mph and watch the mileage go up a 1 or 2 per gallon towing. Chris

I've had the same fiver since 2003, 35 footer weight around 13,500 pounds.
Towing with 2003 3500 dually Duramax/Allison, usually about 8 or 9 MPG. Empty, dependent on wind of course, I could get 17 or 18 MPG.
Towing with 2006 3500 dually Dodge Cummins/6 speed manual, about 11 MPG. Empty, same conditions as noted above, I could get 19 MPG, sometimes even 20 MPG.
I attribute most of the increased MPG with the Dodge versus my Chevy to the manual transmission in the Dodge.
My new Ford has not towed yet, but is generally running in the 17.5 MPG range. I slow down some, it gets somewhat better (but thats slowing to the 55 to 60 MPH range).
All three vehicle have/had the 3:73 rear axle ratio.

Thinking of getting a better truck to tow my fiver.
Thanks for the input!

2011 GMC sierra 2500HD Denali crew short 4x4 z-85 HD tow pkg +z-71 Off road Pkg =(skid plates) Duramax / Allison, integrated brake controller, integrated electronic sway control, stabilitrac traction control, intergrated variable veined turbocharger/engine brake, 7 inch GPS nav w/auto back up camera, power rear window And Attitude adjusting front seats "perforated Leather heated and air cond'd"
I added :
Firestone air lift bags, PullRite Superglide 16K
How much does DEF add to the cost of operating the truck? Plus does it use more of the fluid while towing than around town?
I never amagined that a pick up could be so smooth and yet SO CAPABLE
Mileage is still relative as I only have 9600 miles on it so far "AND" the new D'Max engines also require a substance called DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID which adds although not really significantly to fuel/maint costs
@ this point I am getting right at 17cty / 19 hwy w/just me commuting etc And last trip a few hundred miles ago right at 16, Pulling our 39 ft Cedar Creek mostly on even ground approx 14,500 lbs loaded (14,3+ according to the local CAT scales) But it keeps getting better as it gets more steadily broken in. I usually drive in the low 70's empty and mid 60's w/Beast Cannot begin to tell how absolute happy we are with this vehicle!! But then again I would hope so at the MSRP range
