On another Mexico Forum someone claims you can pay traffic tickets at any OXXO. Anyone heard of this or done it/ Sure beats trying to navigate an RV to a police station if so. Mind you if the cop has taken your Drivers License, it won't help.

If stopped n Mexico and you try to pay the "fine" to the officer on scene don't be surprised to hear "Receipts? We don't give no stinking receipts!" It may take a little longer but politely insist that you be allowed to go to the Estacion Policia to pay your fine. If nothing else the "fine" will probably be significantly and immediately reduced and then it becomes your call as to how to proceed. We all make mistakes while driving and there is no need for an error (or not), to be a major problem.

Never let them have the drivers licence. They take it to solicit bribes. That's why I use a excellent reproduction of my licence that has never been refused. When they write an actual ticket they hand your licence back.
I hand them this pronted statement since my Spainsh is marginal at best.
(English translation)
NOTICE TO MEXICAN POLICE OFFICERS
I understand that you have stopped me for allegedly committing a traffic violation. I will obey your legal instructions by providing you with my Drivers License and vehicle registration. Without admitting guilt in this situation, I will voluntarily follow you to your local police station, where you can properly inform me of the legal procedures, and if asked, I will pay the required fine. I understand that you will issue me a receipt for these actions.

Great idea Keelhauler! I have only paid one bribe in Mexico over a period of 33 years and I just didn't have the time to wait the guy out. Most of the stops are for one thing...a bribe. I love the statement and will have a copy the next time I'm stopped.

Yes, in some states or municipalities you can pay a ticket. We did it here in Monterrey for some time. The transit policeman follows you to the store. Happened to me two years ago in Nuevo Laredo, copped stopped me, I told him I would pay in the OXXO, he followed me with lights going, I paid the fine and we both went our way.
I would say that our group here should check this month before heading home to see what areas do it and report back.
