My wife is looking at new employment that would require us to purchase our own health insurance. If we do, however, we will be limited to HMO's that don't have any out of network coverage. Is anyone else in this position? If so, what are you doing about insurance coverage?
I'm not worried about the misc. doctor visit - but the broken arm, head injury, etc...with no insurance coverage has me quite concerned. And the travel insurance packages I can find are for international travel. I'd welcome any insights you have!!
Thanks.

our blue cross policy does not cover us for general medical issues when we leave illinois but it does cover us for emergencies. i had a kidney stone attack while we were in arizona last spring. our blue cross policy kicked in and covered me 100% except for a couple of small co-pays. i think i was out of pocket to the tune of $25 or $30.

The trouble with being punctual is that nobody’s there to appreciate it.

I'm trying to get some clarification on this. When I called, I was told I would only be covered for 'life-threatening' issues. I'm trying to get a little more detail from them. I appreciate your input.

Just curious about what would be limiting you to strictly HMO or PPO coverage? Just about all Blue Cross policies are available with nationwide coverage where YOU choose the provider.

Unfortunately - not in MA. RomneyCare in MA has created severe limitations in what is available. I have been completely unable to find any private purchase policies that are not HMO's.

IMO - you need to "re-title" your thread (or start a new one) to attract the attention of other *MA residents* who may have more insight than folks from the other 49.

I know our HMO covered issues out of the coverage area, you either had to call and get approval or notify them after an accident.
Most needing coverage out of network don't go to the doctor for a band-aid; they ussually have a tent peg sticking out of their leg.

How close are you to another state. If it is possible to move across a State line you could get many more options. If you own your own home it may be difficult to do this but if you are in your RV, No Problem.
