Well, after many years of enjoyable RVing, our last trip to Quarzite has unfortunatly brought an end to our traveling. We are elderly, and have no idea of how to go about selling our Truck and trailer. We've heard nightmare stories of selling privately. We live in kind of a remote area and no place to "park along side a road, or field" with a For Sale sign. We're afraid of E-Bay, and have never run across a forum type sales site. Please, any suggestions? Surley there is a safe way to get out of RVing. Thanks, Ron

Find a local dealer that will take your rig on consignment. They will pay you a set amount, but do not count on getting top retail. It is more like trading in the rig for wholesale.

Use craiglist. I've bought and sold around 10 of my own trucks, three campers, and several other trucks and items for friends of mine. It's really easy if you do it right. And free.

I would be less afraid of selling on ebay than craigslist because you can demand payment through paypal at the time of the sale. You can set your own terms by saying the buyer must meet you within x distance of where you are. You can have them send you questions etc before bidding. Craigslist, you have to worry about counterfit cashiers checks, scams, etc. Just my 2 cents worth.

RV Trader gets to a great number of serious buyers outside your area. Listed a truck with pictures got 19 hits in first few hours. Good results IMHO

RV Trader and a few other classified sites are out there. My buyer saw an ad I put up in a store window. Unless you don't want lookers on your property, people will have come to you to inspect...not much labor involved. A dealer or campground would be the other showplace. Some lookers might want the RV powered up...can you do that at home? The age of this combination would be a help. You've earned help from some good Samaritans, so ask around for a hand with this.

We've personally bought large, fairly expensive items off RV Trader, eBay, and Craigslist. All perfect transactions. We even bought one truck sight unseen and wired the cash through the bank - eBay transaction.
As a seller what you have to be careful of is how to accept payment. If you do your money transaction at the bank (before giving possession and title) with either a cashier's check or a wire transfer you will be safe.
And - I agree with asking for help from someone you trust.
Good luck!

I presently have my trailer listed (for the second time) on Craigslist at a VERY realistic price, seeing that used RV's are a 'dime a dozen'. Am selling for health reasons (deteriorating neurological condition) which makes the whole hookup/unhook/towing experience increasingly difficult with each year. So far, the only responses I've had are scammers or lowballers.
I'll give it a few more days then pull my ad & park my trailer on a seasonal site rather than deal with the numerous dishonest people out there. BEWARE !!

Thank you all,
I didn't even realize there was anything like the Craig's list thing. Thank you all again, we know we are gonna miss all the wonderful people we've met on the road, and on here. We've had a good run. Ron and Susie
