I have been posting on another thread about wanting to add side view cameras, it was some one else's thread. I decided to try and find some used ones instead of buying the parts and making my own.

So I contacted this company;
http://en.visonerv.com/cgi-bin/c/rvsalvagemotorhomes-partingout.pl?

Now they seem to have everything you would want used for your rig. I asked the guy to look into a pair of cameras off a 03 unit, to my surprise the gentleman tells me they want 250.00 EACH for these used cameras??? I am like are you serious?? What in the hayo are they made of GOLD??

Is the in line for a salvage yard? Needless to say I will be trying something on my own.

Being as most of the folks who have the larger rigs, that would want the side view cameras, are probably pretty well off, they will charge accordingly for them....so expect higher prices...even for used ones, which still have to be removed by someone, so you'll be charged for that too!

That does seem a bit steep when a complete new 7" color system with a rear and both side cameras can be bought for just $400.

Yeah I suppose some guys wouldn't bat an eye at their quote, I'm just not one of them.

@Dutch, THANKS, the whole system for less than their cameras-good looking out. This will keep us from having to do it ourselves.

That made me laugh because I got that sort of remark from a family-owned RV parts person this past WE. I went in to find extended mirrors so I could see down the side of the FW and we got to talking about the $300 factory-replacement types rather than the $50 add-on type. She said she never could figure out why someone would buy an $80k FW and not be willing to shell out $300 for the proper mirrors. I got the cheapies because I only spent $12k for my used FW LOL.

I've checked with the company the OP mentioned in the past and they really seem to treasure their wrecks and demand premium dollar.

Yes, that was my thread you brought this up on before (still amazes me such a simple subject like that brought 7 pages of responses, haha!). I agree with you, its really ridiculous what they want for USED parts. I'd be looking around at various options to build my own setup, too. You may want to check with this guy, I've heard great things about him.

I'm still kind of 'on the fence' as to whether or not the side view cameras are a 'must have' or not. The Class A we've decided to purchase indeed comes with them. In test-driving one with and one wthout the side cameras, I didn't see a huge need for them there. The main reason I see them being useful is as a backup in case you ever damage or lose a mirror. That, or maybe as yet one more set of 'eyes' looking back when backing into a campsite.

Anyway, good luck, and let us know what you end up with.
