I had a problem with me electrical system in my fiver and was wondering what happened. I was boondocking in Quartzsite, with my Honda generator. One day I noticed that the meter inside the trailer was showing only 1/2. Thinking my batteries were going bad,I pulled stakes and headed to Yuma.

In Yuma,I plugged into power at the park. The meter only 1/2 to 3/4. I disconnected the batteries, and the meter went to 3/4 charge. I checked the batteries over the day, and they seemed to be full. Then at night, when people were in therig and all the lights were on, I noticed that the lights suddenly were brighter. I checked the meter again and found everything was now normal. The meter showed full charge, the batteries are now full charge. It has been this way for three days now.

What is the problem? Did dust or sand get between something? I am at a lost to figure it out.

Have your converter checked out. Sounds like possibly a bad connection or a component in the converter going out.

I was going to suggest the same as Skip, clean the terminals including the trailer ground. In addition I would get a decent voltage meter so you can get an accurate read on your batteries. Also check the water level on the batteries. Batteries dont last all that long if you are doing a lot of boondocking and are using a lot of electricity.

Not clear on the exact sequence of events, but you can have a situation where the Honda has popped its breaker so it is still running and seems to be ok if you don't notice the red light, but nothing is coming out. You have to shut it off and restart the engine to get the electric going again.
