Got a pay raise so I'm considering a TT again. There seems to be a big disconnect between the NADA guide prices and what I'm seeing at dealers. Should I expect to see prices double NADA at a dealer? Is there a better online price guide to use?
Thanks,
Chris

If it's yours it's worth half of NADA. If it's the dealers it's worth double NADA. Don't get in a hurry offer a fair price and be ready to move on if the dealer won't budge. I seen a dealer try to sell a 6 year old camper for close to what you could have bought it for new. If he finds a gullible/uninformed person he'll make a sell.

A buyer must be aware of this factor -- You can PAY whatever you want for an RV, BUT an insurance company will use NADA values as a bible in the event of a loss, total or otherwise. You could end up waaaaaay behind the 8-ball in the event of an insurable loss.
My advice is to never pay over NADA retail for anything - period. And, that's even considering that in most cases (especially cars & trucks) NADA retail values are higher than the actual market.

What is it worth to you?
Typically, the trade is worth twice the NADA RETAIL value, and then you want to pay wholesale on the new one.
Just saying.......typical scenario.

I just use NADA for comparative shopping. In this economy, make whatever offer you consider is fair. Don't be afraid to offer a ridicously low price; I've gotten over hurting people's feelings. You can always negotiate upwards or walk away.

It seemed like there was an extreme disconnect a year ago between reality and NADA when we sold our popup. Spring in Colorado usually provides a hot market for RVs. NADA listed our 1991 popup for around $800 when I sold it for $2000 in less than an hour on Craigslist. Probably could (should) have sold it for more.

I inquired about a camper on a dealer's lot this month. He shot me his price and it was almost double what NADA stated heavily optioned too.
I called him out on the price difference on a 11 year old camper. His reply:
The NADA book is only a general guideline to use. Some campers are worth much different amounts than NADA says they are. We have sold campers for $60,000 less than NADA says they are worth and $15,000 over what NADA says. Generally speaking, newer campers are worth less than NADA says and older campers are worth more than NADA says.

NADA is already BASED on the MSRP when the unit was new and NOBODY pays anywhere close to that much for a trailer. No reason to EVER pay more than NADA when it's used.
