How did the 2012 Jaycos get so much lighter? Did some of the build quality just go away? My next HTT was going to be either the 23B or 23 J (lost 800+ pounds). There is still use in My Palomino but I need bigger couch and dinette for the grandkids that will soon be joining us.

Lighter compared to when? If 2003 when your Palomino was new, then it is likely due to the composite wall structure and aluminum framing.

That is very strange. That weight sounds better, but is it a real number??? FR has had a rep of shooting low on their weights, maybe Jayco is going that route.

Can't answer your question but PLEASE don't confuse quality with pounds. Just doesn't compute.

Have the Madison Camper and RV show this weekend, there is usually a Jayco Manufacture rep at the show. If I think of it, I can ask.

Some of it may be that they have a Norco/BAL ultralite steel powder coated frame, shaving off several hundred pounds of weight. This structure features the industry’s strongest strength-to-weight ratio with "I"-beam, one-piece construction.

Strong and light, it uses the same technology as railroad flat car...stamped steel and using "huck bolts" instead of welding for a frame chassis that is actually stronger. Jayco, Aerolite, Kodiak, Adirondack, Zepplin & more brands use this chassis.

Jayco also uses a lighter weight R-9 value laminated foam core floor with aluminum stringers...lighter than a wood floor layed over wood stringers. They still have the high pressure laminated walls and roof with a R-21 insulation R-Value..about 3 times more than other brands.

So to answer your question, they used newer technology to drop the weight, they still don't skrip on the value for the money or the quality.

Didn't mean to raise any feathers. I found an old (2010) brochure and the weights were much higher on the same units then. Checked the Jayco archive to be sure. I have owned two new Jaycos in the past. Had a 1206KB PU for 8 years and a 244B for one. (Missed the canvas) and also owned a couple of Komfort 5ers jointly with my brother. The frame change could explain most of it. Zero complaints on my Palomino other than a drooping ceiling seam. Never leaked. Although the decals on the front went to heaven way too soon. I now have three grand kids that, when they get a little older, I want to make sure experience camping. The lighter wght and more CCC actually pleases me. I'm a firm believer in "Don't leave home without it"

When my Jayco was delivered (6 years ago±), it weighed about 175 lbs more then the brochure weight. This included roof AC, two full propane tanks, battery and quite a few options. Apparently the brouchure weight at that time included at least the "necessities" and maybe some of the more popular options available. Maybe Jayco has now changed to the way most other manufacturers listed their brochure weight, bare bones weight only.

Jayco has added quite a bit of content over the years to the Jayfeather and the roof structure, I am told, has changed from a flat and rather thin roof to a thicker crowned roof.
