First of all thanks to all that answered my last question.
I tow a Passport TT ML199, weight unloaded 3450. I have a 2006 Nissan Titan with a 5.6 L and tow package . I get 10 mpg while towing. I can set it on cruise @ 65mph and run 1900 rpm and go for hours without touching anything. At 60 mph I am running 2200 rpm and seems to want to change gears.
Does anyone know anything I can do to try to get around 12 mpg? TV has new plugs and KV air cleaner and a tornado. Planning a cross country trip in late spring and the 2 extra mpg would be a big help.

The only shure fire way to get better fuel economy are:
SLOW DOWN
TOW SMALLER/LIGHTER, LOWER. Your biggest problem is wind resistance. Think of it as trying to drag a barn door behind you.

I say this in all honesty....forget about fuel mileage or take up a different pastime.
Once you relax and accept the fact that good fuel mileage and RVing don't happen, you will have a much better time.
Remember, you are basically dragging a full equipped hotel suite around behind you.

Probably won 't see 12 no matter what you do but keeping it under 60 will help. Check your tire pressures, TV/TT and load as lightly as possible. My 5.4L pulling a similar TT, 4600# loaded, gets about 10.5 if I keep it under 60. Driving like there is a raw egg between your foot and the pedal helps a lot as well. When accelerating I never exceed 2,000 rpm and 1600 (on a flat road and no head wind), in O/D and Cruise gets me 59 mph. I think the Leer Shell helps the air flow but thats just me. If you can beat 10.0 you are doing better than most of the folks out there. As always....YMMV

Cut off the top half of your trailer!
Seriously 10 mpg isn't bad, I get 7 - 8 mpg towing my Weekend Warrior.
Speed and wind resistance are the only things that make any major difference. Slowing down is easy but wind resistance is what it is.

Try 55 to 58 MPH and I think you might get that extra 2 MPG. We tow a 25 ft. 5th wheel (heavier than your trailer) with a half-ton Chevy and average 10 MPG at a top speed of 58. I might get 11 to 12 on a good day but cannot average that over an entire trip.

Titan's tow great but they are not fuel efficient. The 10% ethanol hurts mileage significantly. Make sure your air filter is clean. Some people have had good luck with K&N air intakes. Tire pressure is important as well. Some people have added tuners. During the winter I only get around 14 empty due to the cold temperatures. Remember you are towing a sail. I only get 8.8 towing a 35 ft Lacrosse weighing around 8400 loaded. Check out Titan talk with with Towing thread.

Ha ! ....yep....cut off the top half of the trailer, and slow down ! Attached shot of my Frontier with the camper and the two horse trailer I pull. The two trailers weight around the same ( depending on which horse is in the stock trailer ) and the Nissan consistently gets 13 to 15 pulling the horse trailer, and 11 to 13 pulling the funfinder. You can see the difference in aero profiles by looking at the pics. Also the horse trailer is rounded in the front. I usually tow around 55mph, in fifth gear ( six speed manual trans ).
