...OK, here's my take on it for what it's worth. I had a 2004 Coachmen Somerset, 37' 3 slide with a GVW of 14,500#..I towed it with an 03' 2500 extended cab shortbed 4X4 D/A..The GVWR on the OPS truck is same as mine was, 9200#....I loaded the Coachmen to about 13,800#( found this out when I first did all the weights), and never dreamed I had loaded it to that much, (just the wife and myself with two boxers)....anyway, when I ran it across the scales, with the truck and just the pin weight in the bed of my truck, I was at almost 9900#...BLEW MY MIND!!.... I knew going through the mountains it pushed me on some of the steep declines a tad...anyway, that was in 05...I towed that 5er with that truck for about 3 months. and took a lot of grief in here by the weight police, (I hadn't been given that title at the time)...I name called, told them they didn't know what they were talking about until I did the weighing...I ate crow, admitted I was over GVWR and the truck "kinda" felt it, at least that was my experience, I had even put airbags on to help level my load...I ended up purchasing my first dually in 05...and no, jimnlin...I'm not pushing dually's...I wouldn't even own one if it wasn't for the 5er that I choose to own at this time.

If the OP has an 07 2500, it has a GVWR of 9200#, I personally, from experience, would not tow a 5er with a GVWR of 15,000 with the truck...hey it can do it, just don't know how long the suspension will hold out

and who really knows how much one is going to load a 5er up with??.....I got rid of some "stuff" after I did the weighing, but most in here know that you can load one up fast with a LOT of "light stuff"....again, it add's up...

Speaking from experience towing a 5er with a GVWR of 14,500# with a the 2500 D/A I spoke of above, I believe with the 5er OP is talking about, he will over load his Chevy...it cost me quite a bit to learn that lesson....

and no, JIMNLIN, being a dually owner, I do not believe you need a dually to tow a 13000-14,000# 5th wheel, (though on the OLDER 2500, I believe you might be pushing the limits of the OLDER 2500 with a 14,000#.....I did and thats a fact)... Don't put all dually owners in the same pot, it's not a fair assessment to those of us who don't buy into that philosophy either.

Thew consensus is in -- go with a 350/3500 dually if you can. I really like the newer large units but it requires (in my opinion) a bigger truck for me. We like our current outfit and it does OK but I question the expense of changing up. I really wonder why they even make 3/4 ton trucks when they have a limited carrying capacity.. I regret that we did not choose the 1 ton in the beginning. The new 5ers are heavier and higher and ALL need the 350/3500 if not a 450/4500 truck under them. I love my little truck but I could love a 1 ton

That makes two... er, a BUNCH of us! When I bought my F250 in 2000 I didn't even think about getting an F350. Heck, I thought it was going to be enough to pull anything! It had a diesel in it, fergoshsakes! LOL

Well, we had that first little 5er for almost a year before DW decided it wasn't even close to big enough... but I figure we're stuck with small 5ers until we trade for a bigger truck, and that ol' Ford is just getting broken in!

Our next truck will be a dually. Then we'll have some leeway.

When we decided last June that we were going to do long term, months at a time, traveling we knew that our 2010 Nomad 25' TT was not going to be comfortable enough.

Started looking for a 'puller' and was actually looking for a 2500 SRW Diesel thinking that would suffice. Well we came across a 2009 Silverado 3500 DRW CC 6.6 Duramax/Allison 4X4 LOng Box and it was a no brainier. We knew that we could pull anything that we would choose.

Did we get lucky? Maybe.

But we know now that we will be more comfortable pulling our 40' Jayco Pinnacale to all the places that many before us have visited.

We thought everything was a go and we would pk-up our new Elkridge on the 16th. Dealer called today with payment and loan information and it was a lot more than what we thought. We asked why and found out that on the paper work it stated MSRP amount -trade in amount -$$ taken off MSRP, total due. We thought that would be amount financed right? Then when they called today he said payments would be more because they added back what we still owe on trade in ( not on paper work) and that was what would be financed, and determining our payment. NEVER had this happen before. Called the deal off. Later owner called to explain...still did not help ....very disappointing, they should have said all this up-front. And it should have been on paperwork...so we are checking out other dealers now.
